Hi everyone

Just curious to know what mattress type people have. We have recently got a new mattress that's firmer than the old one. Since then my pain is so much worse. Would be interested to know what you all use.

I have a sprung mattress with a thick layer of memory foam on top. Gives support but is still soft enough to be relatively comfortable. My sister in law has arthritis and suffers a lot of pain so she has a memory foam mattress and wouldn't change it :)

We bought a firm mattress and then had to buy a topper for it. Mine is filled with duvet type filling and has really helped with the pain. We found it online, but I'm afraid I can't remember the name of the company. You have to be careful not to get one that is too thick, or the fitted sheets won't stay on!

ps It is also washable.

I can't cope with a memory foam mattress or topper at all now! When I came out of hospital (knee surgery, but I also suffer with chronic back pain) I slept downstairs on the sofa bed with a fairly firm mattress topper. Also I would occasionally stay over at a friend's - the bed had a full memory foam mattress. No problem! Slept like a baby! Now? I cannot cope with either & I'm back in my lovely bed again with a proper firm mattress! No more memory foam for me, it gives me no support for my back & in fact it gives me back ache. I definitely prefer a firm bed (& I still suffer with chronic back pain, though it's improving gradually). I even have a board under the mattress. I think this is a case of horses for courses. What suits one person doesn't necessarily suit another. Also, if you are changing mattress, remember it sometimes it takes a while for your body to adjust, so maybe give it a bit of time. Bonnie x

Our mattress has a layer of gel like substance on the top which is very supportive but does not make us overheat. Then there is a layer of foam on top of springs. I think that it is made by Sealy.
