Recording Drs & Hospital Appointments

Hi, hope everyone is well. I would like to know please, can an appointment be legally recorded once you inform the Dr or Nurse that you intend to? I was told by my GP that I could do this, however when I recently attended a Hospital appointment, I was told they needed to raise this with the Hospital Governors?

I hope someone may have an answer or be able to guide me in the right direction.

Have a great weekend everyone.

i dont think they can legally stop you provided you inform them beforehand. Explain it is due to difficulties with memory. ive recorded a few consultations but for a different disability.

Your consultant must have a problem with being recorded. If you feel you can't explain it to the consultant, speak to the PALS office.

I know at our local hospital the oncologist records patient consultations so they can take a copy home to listen to later so I can't see why you shouldn't be able to record your consultations to listen to later.

Wish I could have recorded my last Rheumy appointment. They came out with so many lies afterwards.

Good morning,

Thanks for replying. Sorry to hear this. If you read the reply I received from Nomoreheels, NICE Guidelines, Enabling Patients to actively participate in their care. This seems to cover it so next appointment record.

Have a great day

I have to admit that I do not know the answer to this question, but I would be very interested to know for myself? I want to genuinely wish you all the best of luck with finding the answers that you are looking for.

Al my hopes and dreams for you

Ken

Good morning,

Nomoreheels was able to guide me with her reply. Within the NICE Guidelines, section 1.5, Enabling patients to actively participate in their care, appears to cover it.

Thanks for your reply .

Have a great day

What an interesting subject. I've never thought of asking to record a consultation, but it is the most sensible thing to do when most of us don't remember all that has been said. I will remember this next time I'm at the hospital, or even the GP. Thanks Chante, hugs Linda x
