Hi audh

I would recommend that you just be yourself and tell them as much as you can about how your illness affects your day-to-day living and the problems that you have. Try not to focus on what you can do but on what you cannot do.

If they ask you to do routines of lifting a leg or raising an arm etc, then tell them if you cannot do it and do not try as it could go against you. Please remember that they mark you on a points system and the less that you can do the more points you will accumulate.

I want to genuinely and sincerely wish you all the best of luck with your assessment.

All my hopes and dreams for you

Ken

Make that you take someone with you. For moral support, so you have a witness to all that goes on in the assessment. Avoid eye contact with the assessor, as this goes to proof that you can deal with people and have good cognitive function. Do not down play any of your condition. Always give them examples of your worst days.

Try writing a diary of your bad days it gives them something to read lol...make sure if you write it all at same time you swap pen colour so they doont know

Good luck keep us posted on how you get on

Also mention any tools you use! Crutches/stick, gadget that picks things up off the floor(litter picker), any attachments in your bathroom, as said before! Don't do anything that's uncomfortable!!! Remember..... You are talking about your "WORST DAY" they will watch your every move! from the time you enter until you leave!! Good luck my friend!.... Ninja....♥♥♥

Be weary of them being friendly it's a trick they will try their hardest to make you say you can do things when you can't good luck

Yes just be your self and mark sure you take some one with you and tell them if you got a toilet aid and a shower aid even if you use had rails and stuff for your kitchen like eltrick can opener and a strool to sit on good luck x

thanks everyone so much. i have been through this process before and it not nice, but unlike last nite i kinda know what to expect because when i got report back even my daughter said was we in same room as her ??..(heheheheh).

in a way it has came at the right time as i am very anti social just now and irritable and can hardly move. so see what happens. also i used to keep a diary back in 2012 and was told not to as they wouldnt read and didnt know who would....i have a carer (friend) who comes in when my daughter goes to work and my son here so i know my son is looked after ....... so they coming with me for support plus they see me every day. help me shower wash my hair. cook for me etc or i wouldnt get anythign done .... will post back tomorrow but thanks all......big hugs x

The only thing I can add to that is:

if there's a choice of chairs in the waiting room, pick one with arms and use them to raise yourself. It doesn't hurt to tell it like it is.

Good luck :)

Just to say the eye contact thing- doesn't always work. I don't do eye contact with anyone- I know I definitely didn't with the assessor, I spent the whole assessment looking at my lap and picking at the edge of the bus pass I used for ID- and they still said I had 'no cognitive impairment and engaged well' 😡

I broke down a couple of times in my medical, and the report said I coped well throughout. Go figure. Remember, no matter how nice they are, they are just doing a job within a flawed system that is weighted against you - they are not your friend. Audh, be yourself & imagine it's your worst ever day, even if it isn't.

Hi Aud,

How did you get on today? Hope it went well for you, I am due my first pip assessment on the 15th of this month, & welfare rights told me to ask for a copy of their report, as they apparently don't hold it on file, so it's your only chance to get a copy hope you have a positive outcome Hugs Honor xx

well this is a strange one honor1a.......he asked me if i had been to a medical before.... and then he proceeded to ask random questions. eg:-so do you cook? ,,,and i said no the kids do it but i try to help. then he would say, so when did you last work,,,,,,

he never asked what i do during the day, how far i can do, what an and cant do?.....or did i need help or that....

then he said go..i had to a sums quiz. but used my fingers for the adding up and subtracting lol ....so will keep all posted. thank you ..x
