The person who has over the time I've been disabled - attending medical appointments, shopping, cooking, cleaning, washing and ironing all the things I have limited ability to do alone.
So question. She is on JSA and housing benefit, she lives in a rented flat and travels distance to get to me and when I am bad she sleeps on the couch. If she told the benefits people would she lose her JSA and her housing benefit? For the next four weeks she has been put on a 9 to 5 work placement, so I have lost my help. I am on low rate care allowance.
I/we do hope someone can help, please.
Happy day.

I'm no expert on this at all, so this is just a small thought. If you pay her then that probably would effect her benefits, but if it is on a voluntary basis and doesn't interfere with her availability for work, then I'm not sure. I know she will have to attend the placement she has been put on otherwise her benefit will be stopped.
As to how you cope whilst she is doing this, maybe you could speak with your GP and ask for some carers to come and assist you. It's a tricky one and I really am sorry not to be of more constructive help, but am sending lots of positive vibes your way. 😀
I am so sorry to read that you will lose your helper for a while but it would probably be better than her taking the risk of losing her benefits? Could she possibly pop around and see you in the evening to make sure that you are okay and nothing needs doing to help you?
I wan to genuinely wish you all the best of luck.

Hi can she not be your carer if your on dla/pip pup red dog or whatever conniving name they want to call it?
If someone is caring for you and is on jsa they could change jsa to income support and wouldnt need to attend the work placements , its worth checking out to see if you qualify your local jobcentre should be able to help. Good luck
If she becomes your carer officially she can claim carers allowance if you get DLA or pip. I don't think this affects her benefits but you could check with CAB. If she works, more than 16 hours a week I think, she has to stop claiming carers allowance. But they start it up again when she stops work again.
Hello Tibby3a, with JSA you are paid it as you have to ready and looking for work, so in answer she would lose her JSA I dont know about the housing benefit, which is paid in-tandem with the JSA,
The work placement is something she has to do, to keep getting the JSA, ttfn from Karen
Since you are on low care she can not be a carer. you would need to be on middle care as i have found out. This is a hard question because she would have to be paid and depending on hours she would be working would effect her benefit. She can only make £20 a week and at £7 per hour does not count as a job.
