Hi Mollysdaughter,

This is very interesting to me. I get pain, tingling on the front of my face, often front cheeks. When it hurts the areas feels a little lumpy (can feel but not see).

I'd presumed it was part of Fibromyalgia as my leg muscles are very lumpy too (varies).

Can I ask if you suffer similar and who and how diagnosed please?

X

Hi. I was sent from my dentist to the maxiofacial unit at the local hospital it was they who diagnosed me with Arthmyalgia.

I've got lots of fybro symptoms to and one doctor at the surgery keeps saying fibro the other saying similar to fibro so I don't know im going 😓 all I know if the facial pain is awful.

I'm also diagnosed with restless leg syndrome and brittle asthma, stomach ulser, arthritis. And more x

Yes it is awful and makes opening your mouth etc so difficult. Limit excessive jaw movement by eating soft foods until you are feeling better this really helps. . Avoid wide yawning, singing, and chewing gum. and gently massage the area and I found one of those mini hot water bottles well wrapped up gently placed against the area seemed to ease it. apply heat. It can be made worse by tension as I know in my case I grind my teeth because of pain.

I also have a phantom pain that started in my jaws after having wisdom teeth removed. I have had Xrays and there is no splinters of bone etc left in and the dental specialist said that unfortunately some people just have this and if it persisted the only thing was to have pain killers from the doctor. They don't know what causes it but supposedly it happens more often in people who have something like fibro. As I am already on half the contents of a chemist shop I just have to tolerate it.

Hope it goes soon and that some of the hints my help.x

Thank you rose wine xx

Lots of people just don't understand and think I'm putting it a on, but I struge to eat, chew, yawn, im constantly grinding which makes everything even more painful x

I'm just been fitted with a mouth guard to stop the grinding over night so I'm hoping it works once I receive it x

Is the pain only in your face or other body areas (separate to ulceratedctummy & arthritis?)x

I have pain in my hand feet knees face hips neck and so on x

I have this on and off since August last year. I was back and forth to dentist who eventually took a tooth as I could no longer stand the pain and thought this would stop it. The pain starts near the right ear lobe and goes down right side of my face to the centre of my jaw. I would say it is worse than tooth ache. It hurts to open my mouth and my jaw clicks and clunks. It comes and goes and can last several weeks before subsiding. I take tramadol for my pains elsewhere but this does nothing for this face pain and just makes me want to sleep. My dentist said it is trigamenal nerve pain. My GP and Rheumy both just agreed that is what it is but didnt suggest what to do. I have just had a week of this again and will be seeing my GP tomorrow so will tell him again. Joolz.x

Hi,

Your gp should be doing tests to rule out other conditions, refer you to appropriate Dr's, only after exhaustion of this should a Fibromyalgia diagnosis be considered.

Have you googled the typical FM pain points?.... though it's not just the a typical for so many of us.

Jaw pain is considered within Fibromyalgia. I get it and my jaw clonks away. My dentist sent me to a Consultant who said all ok, and he said likely FM.

It's such a nightmare defining our symptoms.

This sounds like it could be TMJ Temporomandibular Joint Disorder- a very painful jaw/face/head pain that many fibro people suffer. If you google tmj you can find info on symptoms.

That's exactly what it is xx

The pains chase all around my body and move from day to day, at the moment it is in my hips, but for about two weeks before that it was in my neck and face. My face hurt from the cheek bones to the upper jaw and it felt like someone was playing the piano on my top set of teeth. My ears felt as though there were ants crawling round in them and my eyes hurt. How can eyes hurt? I know there is nothing the doctor can do so do not bother him. I use masses of Ibuprofen Gel on my body and it helps a lot but do not use it on my face as I am not sure it would be safe. I did buy a bottle of Robitussin mucus cough medicine which contains guaifenisin and take a spoonful if I wake up in pain the night and it seems to help me get back to sleep. I have been to the dentist and the optician and everything is ok. All this moaning when I should be happy as I was issued with a Blue Disabled Badge last week and can now use the disabled parking bays at Tesco. Oh joy!
