Hi dawnlancaster

Nice to meet you I know exactly how you feel ,I'm awake for 3 hours then sleep for double that I'm sure it's the tablets I'm on morphine to plus lots of others that cause drowsiness.

Are you with a pain clinic they I'm sure could help you ? I tend to be like this in phases for month or 2 . Take care love squeak xxx

Hi dawnlancaster,

Sorry to hear ur having a bad time.

If u are really sleepy and on edge all the time it sounds like your body's not handling the morphine as it shouldn't affect u like that if your body's handling it and you're on the right dose.

Do u take other painkillers as well?

Because you might well get on a lot better with a slightly lower dose of morphine but the addition another type of painkiller as well as the morphine.

This may well make u less sleepy and on edge but control your pain better.

Have u tried amitriptyline, gabapentin or pregabalin?

Also have u told ur doctor the morphine's making you sleepy and on edge?

It wd be important to tell the Dr if ur really sleepy as being very sleepy is the stage before breathing problems and may signify u need an adjustment to ur meds.

I fully understand that all u want is for ur pain to be under control.

But maybe you could ask your Dr about a lower dose of morphine combined with a painkiller for neuropathic pain (the ones mentioned above)?

If ur doctor doesn't know about this then he could refer you to a pain clinic like someone else already suggested, or refer u back to rheumy.

There's a link related to this that I wanted to give u but i haven't got it at the moment. If I find it later I'll come back and post it.

Good luck.

Hi, in that case be very careful with the morphine if ur excessively sleepy as u could be at risk of respiratory depression which is dangerous.

Do u take tramadol and morphine at same time of day?

Cos u might want to try leaving a 2 hour gap between taking one and another.

Best wishes,

Starbys

Hopefully the pain clinic will put u on pregabalin instead of gabapentin. Pregabalin's a more modern version than gabapentin and it is more effective. You have to go through trial and error to find the right dose but when u do it normally helps.

Take care

Hi dawnlancaster

I am so sorry to read that you are struggling at this time, and I genuinely hope that you can find some resolution and relief to this issue.

I was wondering if you have had a full medication review with your GP or Medical Specialist? As the Morphine and other medications could be making you tired?

I want to wish you all the best of luck and I sincerely hope that you find the answers that you are looking for.
