Mine is raised, it doesn't rule out Fibro. Lou x

Thanks for replying I asked because my Doctor said that my raised CPR would indicate that I don't have fibro!

Hello Susie901,

Thank You for your question

To explain further, in some cases a raised CRP means you have another inflammatory condition and not Fibro as it is not an inflammatory condition.

However, it is possible to have a raised CRP and have another condition as either a primary or secondary condition to Fibro - meaning you may have a inflammatory condition like arthritis which has caused secondary Fibro or Fibro which has caused another condition. I hope this makes sense.

Here's some information from our FibroAction website - fibroaction.org

Pre-existing conditions (even if the other diagnosis comes after the Fibro diagnosis), such as Hypermobility Syndrome, Lupus or Rheumatoid Arthritis can also lead to Fibromyalgia, when it is then often referred to as secondary Fibro.Hypermobility Syndrome in particular is now thought to be a risk factor for developing Fibro (Lindsey Middlemiss Founder & Chair of FibroAction)

and this about Inflammation;

Inflammation, whether noticeable in yourself, or showing up in the blood tests ESR and CRP. Responding well to treatment with corticosteroids, which are not recommended for Fibro (as stated in the EULAR recommendations for the management of Fibro) is often a sign of inflammation as these medications work by reducing inflammation. Some patients find that their pain and fatigue improve dramatically when given corticosteroids, such as Prednisolone, for other problems such as allergic reactions and this is usually a sign that something other than Fibro is going on (Lindsey Middlemiss Founder & Chair of FibroAction)

Here's some more information about 'How Fibro is diagnosed' & a list of other conditions which have similar symptoms;

Please do consider speaking with your GP/Consultant about the possibility of Fibro if you feel you have the symptoms, however you may also like to think about maybe asking which other conditions with similar conditions the Doctors feel they have ruled out,

Hope this helps

Best Wishes

Emma :)
