I have both conditions, they are quite separate, we share symptoms with several conditions xx

Have you been started on Levothyroxine 50mcg or are you waiting till you have seen the Endocrinologist? Have you had Adrenals checked? Do you know what blood tests you had - did you have Thyroid Antibodies tested also TPO and Tg?

Do you know if you have Hashimoto's?

I am being treated with levothyroxine, I am tested regularly and levo is increased, my doctors also tend to be swayed by symptoms and not just blood results so I am fortunate really xx

Hi Cathy, don't understand why she's waiting 4 weeks to test for Antibodies, but at least you're getting them done.

Is it because that will be when you get your next TFTs done after starting on 50mcg Levothyroxine? So will she also be testing TSH, T4, FreeT3 & FreeT4.

How are you feeling? Takes a while before reaching full dose of Levothyroxin and feeling benefits.

If you haven't already had them, then I would ask to have blood tests for nutrients levels also. Especially

Vitamin D

B12

Folate and

Ferritin.

As you will possibly be low in some of these. I was presribed Vitamin D and Folic Acid tablets following my nutrients tests earlier this year.

I've just looked through some of your other posts & written you a message that wouldn't send!

Yes, I had Hypothyroid Blood results in 2008 and Euthyroid results in 2010.

With Hashimoto's bloods can fluctuate.

Cathy have you looked on Thyroid UK at the list of symptoms of Underactive Thyroid? See how many you have?

cathy1110 profile image
cathy1110 in reply toMary-intussuception

Yes all of them

You could ask your GP to refer you to an Endocrinologist. I think the NICE guidelines for GPs says to do this if overtly Hypothyroid and patient has symptoms.

Hi mary i dont have new message

Hi Cathy.

Can't remember it all now. It was just to say that I asked my GP for an Ultrasound scan of my Thyroid in 2011. When he got results he made urgent referal to an Endocrinologist. He did all the bloods and my Antibodies were high. He also did Short Synacthen Test to check my adrenals first before I started on my Levothyroxine. You could ask your GP to send you for a scan of refer you to an Endocrinologist or to start you on Levothyroxine 50mcg. But I suppose the main thing is that in a few weeks time you will be having Antibodies tested. You may wish to wait till then. It's up to you really. I was undiagnosed and untreated for many years.

Hopefully, in the next few weeks you will be on your Levothyroxine and over the coming months you will start to feel better.

Sorry Cathy

I made a mess of that. I remember I couldn't find the NICE guidelines again on the Internet. But if you Google - NHS Choices Underactive Thyroid treatment - there is some information on there.

There is good info on NICE guidance for treatment of Vitamin D deficiency and insufficiency. (But it is lengthy) It sounds like you have deficiency because you have been started on the loading doses. The loading doses are taken over several weeks to begin with then you go onto the daily maintenance dose.

I had Vitamin D insufficiency so my result would have been higher than yours but not high enough.

I am on 800 IU colecalciferol tablet daily . I am also on Folic Acid.

Cathy I have just read through your other posts.

You are feeling very unwell?

Can you see your GP very soon?

How are you now?

How is your pain and confusion?

Do you think you need to go to the Hospital A&E?

Did you say that you have had your leg amputated?

It's good to hear you have GP that listens to you regards your symptoms, though xxxx

ps

May I ask, Lou, if you have Hashimoto's?

I must admit that I don't know all about my thyroid condition and rely on the Thyroid UK forum for info, never posted there but the information and advice given there is very supportive, I am treated well by my GP and am comfortable asking him about, on my next visit I will xx
