Hello there. I'm looking for some shopping advice. I'm wanting to purchase some books on fibromyalgia to read for myself and to pass onto my family so they can get a better idea. I've been wanting to do this for a while but have no idea where to start. Some help would be greatly appreciated? Sending gentle and warm hugs to you all xxxxx

Hi there the best way is to copy and print some of the info from this sight. Any of the Administrators would know where best to start but its info to help us understand our own illness hope this helps.

I agree with Royalspec, or you could try your local library. Over the years I have purchased several books none of which come close to the information here, as the symptoms differ from day to day and person to person. XX

I've shown my Mum this site but she doesn't believe in Fibro. (A&E nurse since she was 18! If I'm not bleeding, showing bones or dying then I'm not ill!) Trying to get her to understand just slightly what I go through in a day so general info is what I need in book form so I can just give it to her and run away!

Its not really for me. It's more for my Mother. As I don't live with her she doesn't see how it affects me everyday. Even if the books aren't great for me personally anything that helps her understand is good!

i have bought a few off Amazon

Do you have any written medical reports you could show her if not see about getting some. Bad enough that we sometimes come across this attitude from anyone, when you have been diagnosed by real experts that should be good enough for anybody. I'm not usually very fast at typing but steam is rising from my keyboard I make no apologies your mums attitude has made me cross. Wishing you all the best.XX

Just be grateful she isn't part of your family. There was a reason I moved out when I was 16. She's always been like this, it doesn't really bother me anymore as I just ignore her. I've got all my rheumatology letters etc, but they're quite personal. Sorry to have bubbled you up. Its good to know that sometimes I'm in my own right to get pissy! Gentle hugs xxxx

Send me a PM and I will give you the name of a book written by a well known fibro doctor

I havnt read it myself but have watched several of his videos on you tube.

Hugs sue xx

Hi siankathryn

I am so sorry to read that you are having problems getting your mum to understand your Fibro, and I genuinely hope that you can find some resolution and relief to this issue. I was wondering if you have ever considered taking her with you to a medical appointment? It could be with your GP or Specialist? It may help her to understand simply by listening and becoming more informed by what they say?

All my hopes and dreams for you

Hi A book I found useful was Fibromyalgia and Myofascial Pain Syndrome A Self Help manual by Dr Chris Jenner which I borrowed from the library. Also The Sppon Theory by Christine Miserandino and Love Letter To Normals by Cladio Marek is good at explaining to other people what it is like to have this illnesss, the last two can be printed off the internet. You could also ask your family to have a look at the explanation of the illness on the FibroAction website. Good luck with it all as I know it is very difficult for family and friend to realise how complex the illness is and all the various ways it can effect us.

I was given a booklet from arthritis uk by the rheumy you should be able to get it from their web site. Certainly helped me with my other half. Anything too big would have had the opposition effect.
