Hi Alan I haven't seen post from you for a while ,how are you doing , in answer to your question I get swollen hands but knuckles don't go red ,I am getting nearer a diagnoses now ,they think I have UCTD which basically means conective tissue disease throughout my whole body ,as I new I had fibro I come on this section more as I end up laughing a lot at the funnys ,it keeps things a bit lighter for me , I have also bought a mobility scooter to take out the dogs out ,and if have a blue badge which is making things easier , how are you getting on with your GP now ,have they made any headway with you ,are you coping with hot weather, and how are you getting on with the steroids ? Sorry lots of questions just remember we both had a lot of frustration a few months ago. ! Chris

Hi Chris, I have also come to this site for same reasons as you. I hope you are keeping well, as for me lots gone on ,went to eye clinic last week 3 months now with dry eyes, they done some tests, am now on 4 types of eye drops 4 times a day.got to go back on 6th august, they wrote on report to dr autoimune issues.saw dr today have got steroids down to 12.5mg a day but cannot seem to get any lower. They put me on amitryptline for a while but that put me in a bad place, put me on gabapentin today because paracetamol and codeine are only helping a bit, will see how I get on with it.i am having more blood tests next Monday and seeing new rheumatologist on Tuesday ,really hope he comes up with something.i personally think they rely on blood tests to much and I hope this one listens to me gives me a thorough examination and gives me a clue as to what is going on in my body.all the best Alan

Interesting I went to eye clinic last week ,only had one lot of drops ,but told me I had inflammation of eye tissue and blepharitis ,still off work and I have to go for a meeting with head of personal on Thursday ,been told I have to take a rep in with me ,am expecting to be let go , was hoping I could retrain for something else but been told I can't do spend to much time on computer screen ,can't lift ,can't walk very fast and suffer from fatigue so kind of wondering where or what does that leaves fo me to do ,I am still waiting on lip biopsy ,and think they are going to send me for a few more test yet as I am starting to have issues with tummy and memory and words get mixed up, daughter is home ,she came home early as I got quite poorly again and they threatened me with hospital and she says my brain needs to slow down like the rest of me, i still think at the same pace but I can't the words out but on a positive note she painted the bathroom staircases, kitchen ,and put up 9 shelves for me so I am less cluttered ,the down side is she has a room full of belongings in Birmingham and I can't find a man with a van to collect them for her, we arranged for someone 3 weeks ago to get her stuff as I can't drive that far now and he keeps cancelling on us which he has just done again for the 3 rd time ,are well it will get sorted I suppose. Anyway off to bed with a audio book take care keep yor chin up we will get there Chris

Hi Alan55

I am so sorry to read that you are having this problem, and I genuinely hope that you can get it sorted. I have this but not on my knuckles. I get Arthritis on my knees, and recently on my ankles, so I get it there.

Take care

Ken

Hi ken, thank u so much for your reply, believe it or not in march this year I was laying 600 bricks a day, this is the sixth time I have got ill in last 21/2 years but this has been the worst.was wiped out by it early April and have been on pred, plus other meds since.had numerous blood tests etc.i am now left with joint and muscle pain and redness on my joints, dry eyes and mouth, few other things, plus total frustration as did not want this, would much rather be at work.(sorry bet everybody on this great site feels the same) still see rheumatologist next week and hopefully he can sort me out. Many thanks Ken,Alan

So sorry to read that, it really does sound like Arthritis (the Osteo kind) and I can really relate to it. I have just finished a high dose course of Pred myself. I really hate the side effects but it cannot be helped?

Good luck at Rheumy

hi Alan I have sore red knuckles and also around my nails-hand and toe.dont think it is fibro as from what I know don't get skin rashes with fibro but do with lupus.tho I am not diagnosed with lupus have lot of the symptoms,

Hi, I get that. My hands lock up completely sometimes and become claw hands. Also the fleshy bit under my thumb looks bruised and swells up. I have found nothing that helps this at all. My rheumatologist described my hands and wrists as crunchy...and advised there is nothing that can be done. As I can't take steroids and all other anti depressants, tri cicylics and the like don't work so I am kinda stuck. Good luck for your appointment and Let me know how you get on. x

Hi Alan, the redness and swelling does sound more like athtitis, osteoathritis. Is due to wear and tear which would make sense if you'r a brickie. Hope you get a disgnosis and correct treatment soon, all the best,

Hi Alan, I do... but may I ask you to look at your finger nails and down at the cuticle where the half moons are count them. People with Fibromyalgia either have none or very few. Hope this helps. xxx Mitzi
