Hello - I've been suffering w/back pain for over 10 years. 1 month ago did new MRI. Two of my Dr.s have stated I need surgery. I am very active for the most part (52 yo) . My rt sciatic has been hurting down to my ankle. Then on Tuesday I exercised as I always do, but felt tired so I took a mid morning nap and got up to both legs in excruciating pain . I wasn't able to walk. Waited for my husband to come home 5 hrs later & went ER. They couldn't do anything bc I'm already on fentenyl patch & endoset. Gave me steroids. It's been 3 days gradually getting better. MRI : something is wrong with everyone from L2-S1- tumor, disc bulges, herniation, stenosis, etc.

I never had this happen where I couldn't walk. I'm scared that this is my life. I'm so depressed. I can't get in to see any specialist for a month or more bc their so busy. What can I do? Hope I make sense.

Hi Dene2

I am so sorry to read this, as hamble99b says, could you please give us some more information? As it could be many differing reasons why this is happening to you?

Thank you

Ken

Hi Dene2

I am so sorry to read that you are struggling in this way and I genuinely hope that you can find some resolution and relief to this issue.

It really does sound like there is a problem with either sciatica or a problem with the sciatic nerve? I have pasted you a link below to the NHS Choices webpage relating to this issue:

nhs.uk/conditions/Sciatica/...

As I am not a doctor, you really should discuss this with your doctor and see of they will do some tests to check for this issue.

Take care

Hello Dene,

Intermittent. Such pain may be slowly progressive.

Lower Back (BUTT) issues are due to a lack of mobility in the trunk and hips, or a weakness in supporting core muscles.

Do exercise and yoga in morning and evening. Massage your body regularly.

Try to use exercise with foam rollers, it is more effective for your back pain.

Common Types of Lower Back Pain:

Back pain can be classified into four types namely neck pain, middle back pain, lower back pain, and pain in the tailbone region. The classification is based on the region where the pain is experienced.

Signs and Symptoms of Lower Back Pain:

Back pain usually arises from the nerves, joints, muscles, and other structures in the region of the spine. The pain can either be in the form of a dull ache or a sharp burning sensation. The pain can also radiate from the spine to the regions of the arms and legs.

Treatment for Lower Back Pain:

Non Surgical Anti Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDS)

Epidural injections

Surgery

Perform exercises

Sleeping posture

Cold compression therapy

Signs and Symptoms of Leg Pain:

muscle cramps

swelling of legs

severe pain in the joints

Symptoms arise due to the following reasons:

Inflammation of Muscles

Inflammation of Blood vessels

Inflammation of Ligaments

Causes and Treatments:

Strain in the Muscle or Muscle Fatigue

Injuries Caused by Exercises

Medical Conditions

Vein Problems:

Prevention:

Quitting smoking completely

Eating a healthy diet, rich in proteins, and calcium

Managing your weight

Walking and exercising regularly

Regards,

Stevan

Sounds like sciatica... usually caused by the nerve being trapped, often by worn joints in the hips or spine but there can be other causes too. Your GP should be able to refer you to a physio who can assess and give you exercises which will help. A word of advice - do not allow your GP to refer you to a chiropractor while it is flared up and painful as mine did as that makes the fibro much worse!
