Have had fibromyalgia now for 18 months. Had ct scan of head last month and it came back clear but the blood results showed that my tryglyceride was at level nine. I have to go a bio chemist clinic for tests. Any advice please.

Hi ef59,

I've had fibromyalgia for many years. Many medications were tried. I don't know what you take, but read possible side effects. There are some, that can cause your problem. Diet also is very important.

Are you on a special diet for fibromyalgia ? Hope you feel better soon.

Dr said that this try whatever is a hereditary condition but unfortunately both my parents died very young. I also have angina which she said was a concern. No special diet but do try to follow a low fat diet sometimes. I am on ten different types of medication which I don't think helps things. Thanks for your reply. Take care x

Thank you.

I don't know but I googled 'triglycerides too low' and an article popped up (check for yourself) that suggests you're not getting enough 'healthy fats'. It may also be linked to Hyperthyroidism so it may be worth getting checked for that. It is totally treatable. Hope you can get some solutions fast!

A low carb diet can be very effective in reducing triglyceride levels quite dramatically. My dad's GP was astounded how quickly and how far his dropped when he changed his diet - I think he said it dropped by somewhere in excess of 80%. He'd pretty much given up cheese entirely and was on statins. He ditched the prescription due to side effects and after watching Chris Gardner's AtoZ lecture went on Atkins instead. You need fat, try to make sure it's good stuff, ditch the veg oil and revert to natural ones e.g. butter, olive oil, coconut oil, lard. It helps you feel full so in general your calorie consumption drops as well.

Thank you very much. Your dad has been really determined to reach his target. Well done. I asked my gp is it connected to my diet and she replied no as she believes it is hereditary. I have to go to a biochemist clinic to get it checked out. Keep on giving your dad the support he needs. Take care

Even if it is hereditary diet is still a factor. The advice for Familial Hypertriglyceridemia is still to reduce carbs especially sugars.
