I am pretty sure that it was mainly coconut,with a brown favouring I cant quite place the flavour though. sue

They don`t have my favorites, Barley sugar sticks they cost threepence and lasted me all day. They do have peanut sweets though salty sweet with copped nuts in the middle.

Hi hamble you won't believe this but we have a new old fashioned sweetie shop that has just opened up and I had some of the sweet tobacco and a packet of black jacks and milk sweets. I couldn't tell you exactly what the tobacco flavour was but definitely coconut :o)
milk bottles and false teeth.sugar mice.white mice.chocolate tools.licorice pipes.jars and jars of weight out sweets.smiths and golden wonder crisps in allsorts of flavours-pickled onion and Bovril.
there was an old fashioned sweet shop in my town but it only opened fro a short while.
My favourite was the penny chew, I think you can but it now, it costs 5p and is a 1/4 of the size
I'm pretty sure it was coconut. Havent seen it for years though, but there are a few online 'old fashioned' sweetshops that may find it for you i hope so xx

I remember spangles loved the old English ones.ninja-pacers I believe were opal mints originally.remember 1975 's prices-I worked in a confectioners/newsagents and maltesers and mars bars were 4 1/2 new pence.weight out sweets 10 p a quarter.candy shrimps and sweet and chocolate bananas.
