Gross Topic...Poo!

Hey all,

Hope everyone is as well as they can be!

I just wanted people's views and personal experiences, if you're happy to share them?

At the minute, I'm going through a really rough time with my health. I work full time, but have been off due to being ill etc. So what's been going on? Well, my mood is extremely low, I'm on the verge of a mental breakdown. I'm so stressed because of everything going on with work and my health. So, the main thing that's going on at the minute is two weeks ago, I found blood in my...poo. It's dark in colour, and streaked. It's happened a couple of times before, but not to this extent. I'm constipated anyway, because of my meds, but every time I've gone loo since, blood has been present. I've also got extreme belly pain, especially after I eat.

I was sent straight to hospital by my GP, but they did nothing, only telling me I've got a potential bleed in my stomach, and I need a camera to go into my belly via my mouth to find out what's going on. I hadn't heard anything since, so I went back to the doctors. I saw a different one to last time and said something different! He thinks something else is going on, and wants me to go for a colonoscopy!! I got the appointment yesterday, and it isn't until the end of May.

I'm also feeling nauseous, dizzy, faint, and it seems to have made my fibro worse  my fibro fog is insane  I can't concentrate at all, I'm on a complete state!

What I was wondering, is if there are any other fibro sufferers who have suffered with this sort of thing before?

Also, because I've been off work, and I can't take work home with me, can anyone suggest genuine work from home jobs or ways to make money online? I've applied for PIP since being off, but am needing to pay bills now.

Sorry for my waffling, I've added a picture of my cute puppy to make everyone smile :) (he IS a puppy! 11 months old!)

Thanks all,

Much love! X

I'm so sorry you are going through this. I'm not medically trained and I would only be guessing at what is wrong, so I think you are doing the best thing by going to the doctor and getting it investigated properly.

Be very kind to yourself.

I think you need to be a bit more proactive.  Contact your GP surgery and ask to leave an urgent message or even have an urgent phone consultation with your doctor and explain your worries about pain and not being seen quickly enough.  They can fast track your appointment and you can be seen within 2 weeks.

Do not be fobbed off, this is within their capabilities and is encouraged by the Department of Health whenever cancer, (and I am guessing this is what you are worried about) is suspected.  Ring the GP again tomorrow or Friday to confirm this has been done.

I wish you luck.

Hi,

I have been contacting them at least three times a week, as I'm also waiting on other test results. I have an appointment today with the GP to discuss the pain and my stomach. I think if I contact them any more, they'll do me for harassment!

Hi Blaze sorry to hear you are having such a rough time. Whilst I can't advise medically I am glad the doctors are at least looking into the problem, even if the NHS does move a bit slow!

As for working from home it depends how much you can do physically, there is always the option of things like Betterware and Avon, but delivering sufficient catalogues can be tiring and hurt. Though Avon have launched a new online shop that each sales rep gets so you can promote that anywhere and take orders from anywhere, that may possibly be worth considering. In terms of other work at home options I can have a look later and let you know what I find.

Hi Sean,

I've looked into catalogue dropping and such, and it would require me to work with my current employer, while working the catalogues, until it's established. I don't think I could physically do that. :/

If you could let me know, that'd be fantastic! Thank you! X

I know that feeling and problem. But I will see what I can come up with. X

Hi Blaze

Most people who suffer from fibro also have ibs? Have u been diagnosed with it?? It could be piles or hemeroids too?

A colonscopy is a good idea to rule any problems out...

Blaze_Mitsu profile image
Blaze_Mitsu in reply to Ouch_123

I haven't been diagnosed yet, but hemmeroids have been ruled out already.

Do you get blood with IBS?

Did I mention I'm 24? Lol.

Sean2375 profile image
Sean2375 in reply to Blaze_Mitsu

I have had IBS since my teens on and off, though that has never resulted in blood in my poo. Piles and haemorrhoids are possible though less likely at your age, the colonoscopy will give a definitive answer on that, though the doctor can usually tell by sticking his finger somewhere you don't really want! Lol! X

Lol! He's already done that! Awful experience! Nothing there either...x

Hi there

I may have got what you meant about saying you are only 24 wrong.

Piles (Hemmeroids) are caused by straining to go to the toilet especially when constipated.

Try eating fresh or tinned apricots to help with your constipation. Also ask your GP to prescribe you with some form of laxative. You can get it in tablet form.

The tablets and apricots will do the trick but you'll need them both regularly.

So sorry to hear that you're having such a hard time. Once all your tests have been done and you know what's causing blood in your stools then I'm sure some of the pressure will go. It must be a worrying time. Please let us know how you get on.

You haven't said what your skill sets are for working from home, so suggestions could vary widely lol. I do have one idea if you're any good with what was called 'word processing'. It is the time of year for uni students to submit papers etc and a lot of them need help with layout, typing etc despite the software that does it for them. Spelling, layout, punctuation, and grammar in particular are often not their strength. Pop an ad up in your local university, or speak to someone to get it on their website.

Hope that is of help 🐸

Oh yeah! Work wise, I can put my hand to anything. I'm technically unskilled, but have a lot of experience in customer service, call centres, admin, education...I'm a jack of all trades! Thanks for the advice. X

Cute  puppy.I have had that happen before.I put it off to constipation at times and then all of a sudden you poo.Its something new happening to me.Just my take on it . Peck.😊

Hi, so sorry to hear of you problem.

You're doing the right thing by having it checked out though.

I've had what you're having done a couple of times as I have IBS and piles, also because we have bowel cancer in our family. The waiting time you've been given is actually quite good compared to my area. They are very good now and take biops and can even remove polyps. My fathers had several removed and he has these procedures regularly too.

Have you tried culpermin mint extrac tabs?  I don't know if they would ease your tummy pains a bit and it's a harmless natural tab.

Please don't worry too much as you're on the radar now and I hope it's nothing to worry about. Don't forget they can help a lot now.

Take care and my best wishes go with you.

Hey,

Thank you for sharing your experience. I know that my age goes for me in regards to the likelihood of it being anything serious, but it doesn't stop the worry.

I'm sorry to hear you and your family have gone through this multiple times. The appointment I've got is good in regards to time scale, but this is supposed to be urgent?

Part of my issue is that with everything stressing me out and stuff, my depression is sinking lower. I'm struggling to work because of this, but I have to continue because I've got a family. My partner works too, but you can't live on one wage nowadays. It's just so frustrating! X

in reply to Blaze_Mitsu

Hi again

I know how difficult it is to keep going and to try not to worry, it's really not possible. As you said though it can make things worse.

As you said you're young and you've gone to the doctors quickly, all of which is good news. I really hope it goes well for you and it isn't anything horrid. Don't forget though, caught early even the big C can be cured in the bowel.

If it isn't anything nasty, I would ask about your diet. My son and daughter have gluten intolerance, that effects their toilet habits. My father was told to eat linseed with his morning cereal, this helps the colon.

Have you asked the doctor for anything to help your mood, I would to help you through this trying time.

Take good care of yourself, there's always light at the end of the tunnel.

Best wishes.

Hey all,

So I'm currently down the hospital waiting to be seen by the surgical team, after seeing my GP.

Hopefully, we might get somewhere and may have an answer, or some idea at least.

Hidden  thank you for your kind words. I'm only here because of my partner. She is amazing, and is always supporting me, making sure that my health gets sorted. I'm already on duloxitine for my moods and sleep, and spoke to my GP about increasing this or adding an antidepressant. I used to be on citalopram. But he doesn't want to do anything until we know what is going on with my insides, just in case it causes more issues.

Hope you are all having a lovely evening in the sunshine. X

in reply to Blaze_Mitsu

Hi

Sorry not been on line had a couple bad days with tummy bug.

Glad you're still going to dr and you've got the support of a loving partner, that's so important.

Take good care and keep thinking positively.

Best wishes.

Hi Blaze_Mitsu

I am so genuinely sorry to read that you are experiencing this issue, and I sincerely hope that it is not anything serious. I genuinely hope that you have some kind of answer soon and please try not to worry too much about it being the big C as these symptoms match so many other medical conditions from ulcers, prolapses, fissures etc but they have to rule out the C word first! I want to sincerely wish you all the best of luck and please take care of yourself.

All my hopes and dreams for you

I have both upper and lower GI scheduled for next Monday.  Doctor says it's the best way to get answers with all those symptoms.

Best of luck to you!

lovely dog.

Please remember I'm not a medic.

Here's where the NHS is creaking and groaning at the seams. You need the investigations while the symptoms still show. If it's black, I think it's melaena, and coming from higher up (as the blood's been digested) I've had a couple of episodes and went through endoscopy, barium, and colonoscopy all with no result as there was no episode at the time of the investigation. I've has no problems in the last 15 years. One thought they came up with, Avoid irritants - this means you diet goes really bland, no curry or chilli, garlic, ginger (except mild and rarely) and avoid aspirin based stuff, like ibuprofen. This really need to be confirmed by consultant or GP.

good luck

Thanks all!

I got home from hospital at 12:30 this morning. They didn't carry out any procedures, but have said that they believe the pain and nausea are due to being so backed up, so have prescribed laxatives. The bleed is something else though, so I need to still have the colonoscopy.

I'll let you know how the laxatives help! Without too much detail!

Have a good day all, thanks for your help!

I'm so sorry to hear you are doing through such a hard time at the moment! Also your puppy is totally adorable!! Sucha cutie 😍.

I struggle with really bad constipation and my stomache goes as hard as a rock and looks like a balloon or a 6 months pregnant belly so I have a little understanding of how sucky it can be. When I went to the doctors because of my stomache pain I have a ultra sound to check for cysts and what not. All clear but still in pain , my stomache hurts to press in still now. I also found blood in my stools and it was excruciating pain in my tummy and bottom to go. I went to the doctors with similar concerns and was diagnosed with a fisher which is basically a tear in your bottom which rips everytime you go to the toilet (ouch) so I have to take laxatives everyday twice a day to help and did have to use cream which was very unpleasant to administer so hopefully it's not as bad of a prognosis as you think! And getting stressed I'm sure is only making your fibro worse :/ these guys are spot on though you have to persists and demand with medical workers and Dr's to get what you want or they'll just fob you off and give you any old appointment.  You're in your rights to call them as many times as you want and tou can demand the appointment is brough forward as the stress of it all is affecting you're physical and mental state.

Hope you can get something sorted soon and I know it's harder than it sounds but try to keep your head up and we are all here for as many waffle ons  or rants as you need to have.

Sending well wishes and soft hugs your way :)

Xx

Thank you.

I hope everything gets better for you too. I can't imagine having such a swollen tummy.

The laxatives have helped this morning, but the pain is worse, and I feel really light headed and dizzy. So I'm having a duvet day.

It doesn't help my fibro at all. I'm not stressing that it could be anything like cancer, I'm stressing about the fact I've had to take time off work, so finances are going to be bad, and the extra strain it's putting on my fiancée. She looks after me, cooks, cleans, reminds me to take my pills...she's amazing. But I'm 24, I shouldn't need being cared for. And that really gets me down. But, we've just got to get on with it. :)

Hope everyone has a good day today.

X

Kayleigh_91 profile image
Kayleigh_91 in reply to Blaze_Mitsu

Thanks :) yeh it can get really annoying and makes me quite self conscious as I always used to have a very flat defined stomach, although the laxatives do help prevent it getting too big.

I'm glad they've helped you and it sounds like you definitely deserve a duvet day! Fingers crossed you're not too poorly and dizzy too long.

As you say yourself you have to just try and get on with it...and maybe have a tighter month in certain areas until you are back on your feet.

I can imagine it's not helping at all. I'm glad to hear your not over stressing. I know what you mean feeling like you're putting strain on your relationship and not liking being cared for but she clearly loves you and wants to help otherwise she wouldn't be doing it. If you put the shoe on the other foot I bet you would do exactly the same and you're fiancé would feel how you are now.

We all need a little or a lot of help sometimes I think it's just hard to accept that that's the case. I too am only 24 and have been doing this for 7 year. I hate needing carried up the stairs and helped to get to the bathroom and sometimes I feel like my parents and fiancé  are more like my personal carers than my loved ones and that I ruin their day and get in the way but it's so not the case. I think that type of stuff brings us all down unfortunately :/

I even offered my fiancé an out and I said I'd hold no grudge if the out was taken and I was kissed ,hugged and told to stop being so stupid.

Hope you start to pick up soon :)
