Fibrofog

For the past few days I've been having trouble hearing what people say to me, and mishearing what they have said.

Could this be a symptom of fibrofog or could it be my medication playing with my mind?

Or knowing me, it's totally a mix of them both.

Hearing can be affected when we are tired and/or stressed. Fibrofog is also affected by tiredness/stress. So maybe it is a combination of the two? Boots do free hearing tests if you want to make sure it isn't just a Fibro problem.

I also have this problem, I don't think it is so much hearing but as if people are speaking in anagrams and I have to concentrate to work out what they said. Sometimes I have to say I don't understand. I am going to ENT for tinnitus problems and will check it.

Hope this is some help.x

Have you googled any sites for tinnitus to learn more ? - you often read that people with thyroid issues are more at risk. My husband had very bad tinnitus and had Hashimotos diagnosed at 72 - once on thyroid medication it left him. If you think about where the thyroid is and all the connecting bits and pieces - the internal parts of the ear are not so far away....and inflammation travels. Wearing a hearing aid helped to settle the noise - he said it was like the cicadas in the olive trees in our garden in summer !

Doormat that's exactly how I feel but could never put it into words before 'talking in anagrams' is the perfect analogy! Same kinda things with texts, letters etc, for instance last night was meant to meet up with my cousin for the cinema but there was a long winded problem. Anyway, she picks me up get half way there and she says something bout only dropping me off she couldn't go. When i read the text again it was in there, this is happening a lot and I worry cos I am looking for a job atm & i'm afraid of messing up if I do get one.

Notwithstanding the very real difficulties with fibrofog, some of these things are surprisingly common in the population at large. They just won't admit it. If they wish to be understood, then be coherent. Don't blame the listener's medical condition.

I have a parallel problem, too. no matter how carefully I enunciate I cant get speech recognition software to understand me. Pure hell when trying to contact a helpline!

Umm, sorry that's a bit delayed!
