Welcome to the brilliant site, where it's helpful listening laughing fibro club, lol, look forward to reading your posts, gentle hugs Dee x

Good news and great attitude! I was diagnosed 9 months ago after more than a year of tests and pills and sleepless nights and worry and awful pain. Once I got the diagnosis I read everything there was to read on fibro and now I have found my own way / what works for me and I have fibro under control, rather than the other way around. My top tips are: 1) MEDICATION - Make sure your thyroid levels are right and, if you need it, remember to take your medication. The same goes for whatever they give you for fibro. Take your meds like clockwork. If you find they aren't helping go back to the doctor and ask for something else. Keep asking until you get it right. Don't give up and don't accept no for an answer; 2) SUPPLEMENTS - Magnesium supplements help relax my muscles and keep my guts moving, cod liver oil for omega 3, evening primrose for hormones, multivits for general health, glucosamine for joints; 3) EXERCISE - gradually increasing excercise under the supervision of a physio (my NHS one was wonderful) is brilliant - I love my bike and I'm fitter than I've been in 10 years now. At the beginning I couldn't even walk for more than 5 minutes with excruciating pain. Now I can cycle for an hour!; 4) DIET - you really are what you eat, sad but true, so eat healthily. At the beginning I realised that skipping meals was a bad idea. I needed regular healthy meals. I have cut out wheat because it caused my IBS, which worsened my fibro, and I have massively increased my intake of raw veg (salads) and fruit (great fruit and yoghurt breakfasts) AND I have realised that I MUST get enough protein every day, whether that's through eggs or dairy or meat (I find chicken best). So I have radically altered not only my diet but also my family's and it works. I eat whatever meat and veg they eat plus salad, while they have pasta or bread. We are all HAPPY. Best of luck with this. It is HARD but it is possible to massively improve your health and your quality of life with fibro.

Hi Apple4me

Apologies if this is a stupid question but do you feel better in yourself by eating healthier foods?

I've been thinking about buying a cheap second hand bike to get some free exercise but I'm not sure I would have the strength to cycle very far.

I guess I won't know until I try!

Sorry for not replying at time. Not been on here in ages. I'm not doing so well at taking my own advice just now but yes, I do find that eating healthier makes me feel better. Since I have not eaten healthily this week I feel pretty yuck! Also feel pretty yuck about autumn and winter weather dark nights and not getting out to much on my bike or having sunshine to enjoy! But I still think my bike is great for free exercise! Hope you have given it a go!

Hi vbomber1

Just wanted to wish you a very warm welcome :)

This site has an amazing amount of caring, kind, compassionate people.

We are all in the same boat as it were. Some days the water is calm and the boat is not swaying too much and other days we are holding on very tight trying to ride out a storm.

The main thing is that we all care about each other and understand how much this ghastly condition can affect us.

Sending you healing vibes

Coz xx
