Hi usernamerao

I think in this case it would probably be better to ask your GP to explain to you the vitamin D deficiency that you have and what the supplement you take is for. They will gladly explain medications and their differing doses and uses to you if you ask :)

I mean, I take 1 FultiumD capsule 800ui daily for life and my husband takes 1000ui so we are all different with respect to body sizes and weight and level and type of deficiency so it would be difficult for me to tell you whether you are taking the right dosage, sorry :(

I can suggest that you also discuss the options for taking the supplement, for instance injections, capsules, drinks with your doctor also.

Good luck and keep us posted

As Zeb states it does depend on the level of your deficiency. Earlier this year I was given a very high strength Vitamin D capsule, which had to be ordered by the pharmacy. I initially took two a day for ten days, and then one a week for 8 weeks.

I had a blood test at the end of it, and my Vit D levels were then found to be fine, however the blood test was taken during the hot spell we had when I was able to be out of doors for the required 20 minutes each day, which might have had some bearing on the results.

If you are unsure the best person to advise is your GP, though pharmacists are also very knowledgeable

Good luck

Thankyou.in fact I was not tested for d vitamin deficiency but my doctor advised me above when I complained of regular body pains after starting the medication for my recently found diabetes.after starting the medicines and exercise I lost about 10 kg of weight and a good deal of muscle around hips, thighs and shoulders.i started getting shoulder pain and at hip joints and asked him if I was overdoing my diet and exercise .he told me to use this for 8 weeks and stop. It is already six weeks and I am no better.thatswhy I got a doubt whether this dosage is usually one that is prescribed or different as I felt vitamin supplements need to be taken on a daily basis for sufficiently long periods.

HI again :)

I don't understand why he didn't test first, it sounds odd to prescribe something like vitamin D without doing a blood test!?

No wonder you are confused. I would ask for a vit D blood test to find out if you actually need to take it and ask the doctor to explain to you why he made his initial decision for you to take vitD supplement for 8 weeks.

It is possible that he's checking to see if it makes any difference to your symptoms and then make a decision from whether it does or not!

Either way it is your right to know what you are being treated for and what the treatments are. My Gp explains all info regarding a new medication, test results everything I can see what he writes in my notes too.

Be brave my friend and ask for answers :D

goodluck xxxzebxxx again keep us posted :D

Hi there like zeb said I'm most surprised he told you to take Vit d whithout doing blood test first, unless he's going on the fact that most fibro sufferers have. Vit D deficiency, I don't think he would give you injections before giving you a blood test because you can have too much, I take selenium ACE +D every morning, hope you get this sorted but I would defo go back to the Doc again tho...gentl hugs to you...Dee x

I suggest natural vitamin b. Sunshine if possible. If not, artificial sunlight such as tanning bed. The heat feels so good soaking into my body all the way to my bones.

Greetings, I would also advise getting as much natural sunlight as possible, which I know isn't easy in this country!!! Tanning beds can lead to cancer. Heat lamps would be better.

If you have to take vitamin D, Please make sure it is D3 as this is the only one absorbed properly into the body. If you can find a natural one, it would be even better as you wouldn't have to deal with the nasty chemicals in the normal ones. I always say that I'm not putting anything into my mouth that I would not put on my plate and I would not willingly eat a lot of the chemicals put into supplements.

Good luck and be blessed
