Hi everyone, I found these wonderful field mushrooms whilst I dragged myself up through the field behind my cottage. The dogs were racing about and I was trying not to loose a neighbour's terrier down any rabbit holes (tho I quite fancy a bit of Alice in Wonderland, would make a change from Foggy in Fibroland ) It is a few years since we last had many if any, I don't think the weather was right, but with the rain and warmth lately, up they've popped. It is a marker in the year for me, the start of autumn proper and thence ....... you know where.
I have now given said mushrooms to a friend as I know he loves them and I can take or leave them, so tonight they will be mushroom risotto

They look very nice, but I am not one for mushrooms - had a bad experience when I was much, much younger & a 'friend' persuaded me to try some of those 'magic mushrooms'. Suffice it to say, it wasn't a 'magic' experience for me!! Haven't been able to look a mushroom in the eye without feeling queasy ever since!
I know, I haven't had that experience, but I used to love mushrooms, probably had overload, so now not so keen, plus you so have to know which are the right ones to eat, it you draw one of your nails across the top of a mushroom and the scrape turns yellow then don't eat them under any circumstances ..... That indicates they are dangerous. A few years back I was in Tuscany tat about this time and the Tuscans all go out into the countryside Funghi hunting, and they have the "Funghi Police", you take your basket of mushrooms and they pick out any that are dangerous......... It's like a family outing on a Sunday afternoon for the Tuscans !! You see loads of cars parked alongside the road and you know that is where the fungi hunters are
I like the idea of the 'fungi police', could have prevented bad experiences like I had if they'd been around. I'm off now to forage for roast pork, Yorkshire pudding, roast & mash potatoes & carrots & broccoli, fresh veg from hubby's allotment. Plus a nice bottle of wine, of course!
Have a nice Sunday evening everybody, speak tomorrow!
