Time of year.

Hi all.

There seems to be a lot of blogs on here at the moment about people feeling worse at the moment. More flare ups, pain, stiffness, you get the picture.

I too am really suffering at the moment. Yes I have just returned from a nice hot holiday and yes I had my hand op a couple of weeks ago but I don't think either of those should make me feel this bad. The op didn't bother me and wasn't that painful and I loved my holiday.

I am wondering if it is the time of year and the cr*p weather we are having that is making many of us feel so awful. Also probably the thought of Christmas looming (I love but dread it).

Any thoughts? Hugs xxxxxx

Sorry to hear about your hand op glad it went well... Yup I am having a flare up but I do love autumn and winter the colours the smells.. Christmas .. But as you say our bodies don't seem to like these times... Still I can snuggle up in my warm house and enjoy looking outside we have scaled down Christmas entertaining but not the decorations... But I deffinately agree that we need warmth all year round to function at our best.

You say you have just had your 2nd carpel tunnel op. Can I ask, was this for the same hand or have you now had both? I ask, because I had my R hand done in Dec. 2010. Op was fine but left me with Deep Pilar pain and took 3 months to get back to work. Some of the numbness went but was never a complete success. Just over a year ago both wrists develloped severe symptoms again. I had both wrists injected, but with no relief. Today I have just got back from hospital consultant. He said only way forward is to have them both operated on. I have refused, as I can't be out of action/work for that long again. He also says my neck problem, Spondulosis, could also be an agrevating factor, which no op will make a radical difference anyway.I have known several people who have had really sucsessful results from the operation, but also a few that were failures like mine. I also was in trouble for not wearing my wrist splints consistantly. I used to be able to drive when it was just my right hand in a splint, but no way would I feel confident trying to drive with 2 hands splinted !! Will compromise and take them off to drive and then put them back on again! What a pain. Literally!!!! XX

aww yes pinkypiggles, weather seems to play quite a part in problems and flares, i just had one and i have a collar design in mind that going to try design as i have researched and googled and canot find anything like i want for my neck at all.

Who knows!

so glad your op went well with carpal tunnel, i was diagnosed years ago in my right arm and was told if i did not sort it out it would spread around the body and at the time i had just had an open surgery operation with hernia and another op after and could not face anymore and said would cope but now am all over.. when the neck went last feb and had |MRI it confirmed a lot of things cervical but now i just blaaaa really but we have to cope.

Now with Bhms/eds so its a combination of lots of things together and the fatigue can have such an impact too.

I like pinkypiggles !! ;-)

Thank you, I have now had both hands done and would recommend it. I know what you mean about ops. I have had a back fusion, hysterectomy, many investative ops, both hands and my neck hurts lik mad at the mo. I was told it was spodulosis?

Can you not get a soft collar from docs, hospital, chemist for now? Until you sort out your collar?

Hugs xxxxx

I was wondering if a neck support of some kind would help my neck and symptoms, but don't want to go buying MORE supports in case they are of no benefit. Hope once I get the MRI scan and see what if anything is indeed going on, then perhaps I will ask then. Haven't actually seen or heard of anyone wearing a neck support, be interested in hearing others experiences. XX

Oh yes, I totally agree that sunshine makes me feel a bit better but these days I can't take the heat and sunbathing makes me come out in a rash! I suspect I am a spring and autumn person really. I love taking the dog for a walk round the local meres while all the colours are changing but not too fond of the wind as that defo makes my joints hurt.

I always look forward to Christmas and getting the family together but this one will be a bit different as my son won't be at home as usual having gone off to NZ. Miss him dreadfully but it is not fair to hold them back is it. He did all the cooking last year so I'll be looking for volunteers this time around ;-)

Glad that your op was a success. Jane x

Thanks Jane. Have you been back to Macc yet? Must sort out that chat.

Consultant apt was a waste of time but pain clinic sounds great. Have had assessments, med reviews with the main doc and chat with physio so far. I start the main, intensive course after Christmas. Might be worth asking your GP about? Yes, would be lovely to chat. xxx

in reply to

Where are you having the intensive course? I am waiting for a referral to Liverpool still x

I don't mind Autumn but Winter fills me with dread, the cold, wind, rain, ice and possible snow! Feeling cold 24/7, central heating that plays havoc with my sinuses! Christmas is wonderful but I always end up in a panic with so much to do. Mum usually spends it with us, I am looking forward to that!

I am not usually well from December through to April, my symptoms seem to implode during these months. Pain worse, can't get comfy in my chair or in bed, sleep problems, fatigue into overdrive too! I love it when I see the Spring bulbs sprouting, I feel nicer weather and temperatures are within grasp again and better health too! :)

I find I have flares whether I get too hot or too cold si winter/summer makes no difference at all and I can never seem to have a happy medium. It could be you have had lovely warm weather and come back to this drab effort we have in the UK. You would think after 21 years I would be used to it. I can only pray for a few warm days for you and see if this gives you some respite from how you are feeling now xxxxx Lin
