Since i had this done my symptoms have got worse, first was getting pain across the shoulders and down the arms with tingling and for the last year been getting severe spams in the face and neck, i am getting the spasms in the face 24/7, any advice would be great. Doctor at pain clinic has referred me for a mri scan of whole spine, thinks i have syringomyelia.

Hi Josie,

Sorry to hear you have had such a rough time, I can't really give you any advice on Syringomyelia as I don't know anything about it, on a positive note though, once you have had an MRI scan, the doctors will know exactly what they are dealing with and can then give you the treatment you need, so then hopefully will be able to take away the awful pain and spasms you have been having.

Sorry I cant be more helpful. x

Sending a (((((hug))))) to you xxx

Hi Josie, I too have very little knowledge of Syringomyelia, but it must be scary facing the possibility that that might be the diagnosis. Do you have a date for the MRI ? I hope it is soon, and that it comes back clear. Like snicky says once you have the results then the medics can give you the best possible treatment. I know how painful spasms can be as I get them in my spine and neck, I have had spinal fractures , but that is nothing compared to what you are going through, I too am sorry I cannot be of more help, but do come back and let us know how things go and we can be here to support you and give you encouragement,

Sending positive healing vibes your way

Foggy x

I have exactly the same symptoms, I have had an MRI scan and nothing shows except that I have positional cervical cord compression (PC3) and nerve compression at C4 and C6. It's almost like I have acute spasm of my left side of my face and left arm, like as if I have had the opposite of a stroke on that side. You can even see my left side of my face is more taut (makes me look younger on that side!). What I find helps - Diazepam, Clonazepam, which I take in small amounts and not regularly, just when I need it. I also have learned meditation and Alexander Technique to improve the position of my neck - I also do yoga for posture. It does help but makes things ok rather than distressing, I can live with it now. So it might not be syringomylia, although you need the test and it might show up something else. By the way Professor Andrew Holman of Seattle reckons that 71% of people with fibromyalgia have PC3, it causes the autonomic nervous system to dysfunction and this causes symptoms like fibro.

I have a appointment for a scan on the 7th of October and before that, i had pain relief, April last year, when the doctor had a look at my xray results of my neck, as i had a scan of my neck, he told me i had compression on the spine but when ahead with the epicdural in the top of the spine but i read that you should not have this treatment if you have compression on the spine , was shocked that the doctor when ahead with treatment, but they say you can end up with nerve damage if the doctor touches on the wrong nerves.

Will keep you updated, thanks.
