Does a fibroid make you put on weight??

Hi hope you are all doing well today. Does anyone know anything about fibroids. I have one measuring about 13cm x 9 cm x 8cm. I wonder if that either makes it harder to lose weight, or whether the fibroid itself makes you weigh more. Also has anyone had any treatment done on theirs?? Thanks again, and have a good day x

Hi. So how did it go?. I see that your post is from 2 years ago.

I have to big fibroids 9cm and 7cm and I have put on so much weight the last couple of years and it's hard for me to get rid of it.

Did you lose weight after yours were removed? Thanks!

I had a few and had awful problems with them, they didn't make me put on weight but they weighed heavy! I looked and felt about 16 weeks pregnant and the specialist said as much. I had a few different treatments, none of which worked and I eventually had to have a hysterectomy, but to be honest it was a relief to me, I was 44 but my children were all grown, the youngest was 17 so I was finished my family.

I hope you can get it sorted soon x

Hi MaryD how are you?? Thanks for your message. I must admit, Il'd much rather have mine removed if I could. I'll see what the urologist says when I see him on the 25th, and see how the fibroids go from there!! have a good day xx

Hi, thanks for that. I'll have a chat with my urologist, and take it from there! have a good day xx

Benign uterine growths can grow to large sizes without producing symptoms. This may only be detectable as gradual weight gain and distention of the abdomen, as if the woman was pregnant. As cancerous tumors can also cause this type of distention, it is important to consult your doctor if you experience sudden, inexplicable weight gain. Unless it is causing you problems, they usually, for most women, disappear after the menopause. Never be talked into a hysterectomy. This is rarely needed for fibroids. Myomectomy to preserve fertility, leaves the womb, but removes the fibroid. Get a surgeon who is experienced in myomectomies. If your surgeon will not do it, it may be he is not experienced. There are other options other than surgery. A radiologist can use a procedure that cuts off the blood supply to the fibroid, which then withers and dies.

If you want to know more, let me know. Good luck.

I am an ex-nurse, but also I had a sub-arosa fibroid removed when I was 42. Hope it goes well at the doctor.

I have seen 2 doctors. First one gave me monthly injections to reduce. It worked and fibroids reduced so injections stopped. But 2 months later pain came back so back on them. He suggested uae or myomectomy. But as i was coming back to the uk my doctor here suggested a hysterctomy as too many fibroids. That i refused. So now im on zoladex injections with hrt tablets. I have put on 14 pounds in 6 months. I am someone who has gone from being active to feeling tired all of the time. And now i feel confused as 2 doctirs are saying diff things. Help please :(
