Hi I have a scooter but not on a grant. If you get top DLA then you can use that either for a car or mobility scooter.

I bought mine from Lloyds pharmacy if you want to know how send me a message! They are cheaper than mobility ones.

Don't know if this help but mine folds up to go in the car,but you can also get a heavier one to go out on your own if that suits.

Rainbow x :-)

Hi, yes. I looked for DLA or Disability Living Allowance and went on to find the Mobility section. I didn't win first try, except when they said no, review in 5 months, I sent them a letter, written with real tears running down my cheeks, asking whether they would like to be condemned to living in a house, unable to pop to the shops, unable to walk a very sad dog, unable to have any independence - having to ask for a lift, or a taxi. Having to fit in around their lives. It worked and I now get full mobility allowance. I then went to a Mobility Centre and sought out a scooter. Chatting to them I found that if I wanted to, I could either buy new, buy reconditioned or go on the Mobility Scheme. This meant that a portion of my mobility allowance would go directly to them - I wouldn't have to worry about missing a payment - and then I would be fully insured, regular servicing included, tax disc applied for and attached to scooter if you get one that goes off road [8 miles an hour, lights, indicators]. Also you would be a member of the RAC for it and should it break down, they would come and rescue you, pick up the scooter, you, your dog [I asked because I had one] and get you home or to where you are staying. You are committed for 3 years though. You could get your own and arrange your own insurance, RAC etc, but it has worked for me.

Good luck.

Makes me atleast half hour to walk to a shop 5 minutes away an I don't do it because of that.. fact you said it takes you 2 hours is redicuous nobody walks for 2 hours to somewhere that is 5 minutes. Not even us disabled.

Hi Munchkin

DLA is not available for new claims

the new benefit is Personal Independence Payments

check out the link

gov.uk/pip

hope this helps

My doctor recommended that I have a powerchair rather then a scooter and he sorted it out through the NHS so I don't pay anything for my indoor/outdoor chair as the local wheelchair services call it. Might be worth a try too hun x

Hi, I don't know whether this will help but I bought my second hand scooter on a well known Auction Site. I already have a car on motability. This lightweight scooter was less than half the price it would have been when new. It's what you would call a boot scooter as it easily fits in a car. This scooter was only £280 (originally £800) & was virtually unused. There are lots of larger scooters available too & they are just as reasonable. Unless you are using DLA don't go to a mobility shop and buy new as they are too expensive. I hope this helps, my scooter has been tremendous! Hugs x

Apply for PIP on mobility and if you are able they will set up a monthly amount hopefully this will include purchase of a scooter or your NHS can prescribe one for you. Good luck xgins

Hi

I am in desperate need of a scooter as live in the stix and have a dog to walk! I cant get out without a walking trolley amd that doesnt let me go far or on rough ground. Having experienced 3 mobility scooters when being my fathers carer I know I need an expensive one as its rough terrain here. If I now re apply for benefit I will be put through the PIPS (personal independance payments) mill and face ATOS again and probably court too as I had to fight for low lwevel care for 2 years and got no mobility awarded.I have a blue badge and have just applied for the mobility only element of DLA to be reviewed so I wont be put through PIPS until claim is in need of review. PIPS here is for new applicants or reviews after October this year, hence me applying for mobility element only review. I am doing this through a web based company who seek justice on applicants behalf for a small percentage of back pay. I am not expecting PUIPS to be introduced in any fairer or just way than the DLA was, so I dont want to jump that hoop until I have to! Ive not heard of any grants for what I need, so I am reapplying for mobility DLA element ONLY. Still waiting for a response though!

Good luck in getting the help for scooter you need and deserve, its so hard getting justice :(

:) hugz NN
