Hi, I got ME with the others, also diabetes central sleep apnea and more. I have recently heard that I might be entitled to a free electric scooter. I have highest rate pip and mobility but wondered if any has any info on this? Thanks

If you have high PIP Mobility, you will be entitled to apply for a Scooter under the Motability Scheme. It's not exactly free though because payment is made direct from your PIP Allowance. Give with one hand, take from the other! It would certainly make life easier for you i'm sure. :) xx

Yes, you are entitled to a mobility scooter if you are on the highest rate of DLA. I already have a little scooter, easily to dismantle for my husband/carer, so do not need one, but I believe also wheelchairs are available too, and for some, even a motability car, if you give over all your money, plus a hefty deposit. We decided years ago that I desperately needed the money instead. We bought wheelchairs and my scooter secondhand. sincerely, Roselil

I got a free decent specially made to my measurements from occupational therapist. Someone came round, measured me up and a couple of weeks later delivered my wheelchair. I have a mobility car which I don't mind paying for. I come from Cornwall and my children and grandchildren still live there with all other family so having the car I can at least go home to my family. I was told that I could also apply for a scooter from a friend of my mothers who has done it. I can't seem to do much on my own as the wheelchair requires me to turn the wheels but I have tendonitis in both shoulders. Can hardly walk. Everything I do I need help with. I even gave up driving. With a scooter I can have some independents.

You don't need a deposit to get a mobility car not unless you want something like a BMW or any other high priced car. Most people go for the cashqi sorry about spelling, but no deposit on that. There loads without deposits. I got a ford Kuga, that needed a deposit but that was a choice. I needed to find a SUV with the biggest boot.

Thanks. Mistee, but I am well catered for. We bought our own secondhand. I need the money.

dear Misty, I am sorry to hear you have M.E and a few extras, as I have too. My ME was first diagnosed in 1990, after 3 years confined to bed, but I saw a so-called specialist in 1980 and he put me on a beta-blocker (being totally unaware that I had ME and Fibro) and after 7 years being left on that drug, which did not good at all, my legs were finished. I later saw in Dr.Shepherd's book on ME that it was the worst possible drug for M.E. So have been disabled since 1990 so had to get a wheelchair. Life is hard-going, and the few outings that I have managed over the years, has been agony with any travelling, my muscles just too weak and painful.

Jaw troubles do not help, as one cannot masticate and chew foods, so it is just little soft meals. I can even choke on water. But by the grace of God, keep going.

Hope you are feeling somewhat better. sincerely, Roselil

I choke whilst drinking too and with eating, my teeth started falling out. I have only little stumps that need to come out in hospital under a general. They can't touch me coz my diabetes is still uncontrollable and they won't risk it. Not only do I have to watch my diet I also have to think about what I can bite. I understand what you're going through.
