hi everyone the only reason i ask is i have had fibro for over 11 yrs and have had swollen ankles but my left ankle is severley swollen and has started to swell around the back i get a shooting pain to my toes, looks like i have a tennis ball some days, the only reason i ask is as it is so severe now my gp has said that amount of swelling is not normally associated with fibro and have a MRI booked for 5th of march xxx

Yes I do, I was only diagnosed Fibro roughly round about a year and a half ago and I've gone from a size 5 to a 6 1/2 :/ I have so many pairs of gorgeous high heels sitting in my wardrobe and now a days all I get to do is look at them. I did actually buy a bigger pair a few weeks back as I was going out (an extremely rare occurrence now a days) for a meal, everything went well til I got home and fell outside my garden gate :) so now my new bigger shoes are all scuffed and I'm back to just looking at the other ones again :) Agony at the time but looking back now I can laugh so hopefully this might give yourself and any other reader a little giggle too :)

Soft hugs to all x

I also experience a very heavy lead like feeling in my legs when i walk, they go to feel so heavy i can barely lift 1 foot infront of the other!! Is this normal with fm??

I think swollen ankles are fairly common amongst us. However, if yours are more swollen than is usual for you, you should see your GP. It is too easy for us and our GP's to assume almost any symptom can be written off as a by-product of FMS. What we need to remember is that just because we have FMS it doesn't mean we can't suffer from anything else. My swollen ankles turned out to be caused by stage 3 kidney disease that I got from taking anti-inflammatories for too long. My advice is, that if it's new or different and it lasts more than a week, ask your GP to do a full blood screen.

It's good your GP is referring you. Anyone, particularly anyone who is not active, can have fluid retention, Fibro or not. But Fibro does not cause swelling.

Anyone who has swollen feet and hands should push for regular retesting and posisbly also a referral. Some conditions like RA do not show up in blood tests at first.
