I'm sure there will be some people who have good suggestions soon.
I think there might be a book too,
sandra.
I was told to stay off caffine and alcohol. Also a well balanced diet.
Hi, I'm going to the Pain Clinic on this Tuesday so I could find and let you know what they say if you like? I was diagnosed over 15yrs ago and no one suggested certain foods you must eat!! But I will ask and see....Aisha x
As well as caffeine and alcohol,I've heard that artificial sweetener aspartame can cause flares.
I am a firm believer in avoiding aspartame it is not good for the digestion. I think a little of everything in moderation is the answer but what does it do when it comes to the age old question of Chocolate we have a dilemma. Chocolate is actually good for you if you eat high density coco solids in other words dark chocolate, it is difficult to binge on it but marvellous to eat a couple of pieces what does it do? Well a feel good factor comes as a direct result a sort of high rather like drinking coffee the caffine makes us feel more alert. So chocolate yes it is good (I love it - what a surprise- I also love coffee).
Other foods that are good for you well the answer is a well balanced diet I personally favour eating lots of Satsumas keep the vitamin C high, dont eat to many bananas they are very filling but carry on eating them and you will put weight on. Try to eat fruit in season it makes us change our diets with out worry.
all the best xgins
Hi Rachellou,
It's very confusing, all this diet stuff!
Personally, I can recommend Slimming World if you have weight issues. I don't much like clubs, so I went once and bought the books, then did it on my own. I also buy their magazine, because it has lovely recipes. If you find yourself needing support, you might enjoy the club aspect of it - they are very friendly.
The diet is just good, sensible healthy eating, and only restricts sugary, fatty foods - you can have pretty much anything else you want, so it's very easy. It's the eating plan recommended by most doctors and nurses, because SW don't try to sell you fancy diet foods - it's all basic everyday things which are good for you. It has kept me at size 8-10 for years, and I'm an old boiler of 65!
One word of warning - they do recommend a lot of artificial sweeteners, which we fibro sufferers should avoid like the plague. The only sweeteners I would consider would be stevia based ones like Truvia. They do have a slight aftertaste, but don't cause pain like aspartame does.
Anyway - 'food for thought' as they say! I hope you find an answer to your problem - I suggest buying a copy of Slimming World magazine, to see what you think of it before committing yourself. You can also do it online.

I agree with all what's been said,I lost 3.5 stone with SW but I have put just over a stone back on as I went back to being naughty and eating far too much sweet stuff. I find with my meds I am starving in the afternoon and its usually for bad stuff! I've tried the Harcombe diet which means no processed food whatsoever,I got through phase one then blew it on phase two when u start to reintroduce "bad" foods. I think it basically means I can't have wheat, sugar or dairy as it all seems to set me off. I'm gutted. I had some chocolate over the weekend and ended up with a migraine. I think you have to work out what you may be intolerant too maybe by keeping a diary perhaps?
Hi Rachelou No doctor will actually advise you on what to avoid as stated caffeine which is found in not just tea and coffee dehydrates the body which is bad for us as does alcohol also surgery foods google candida aspert amine found in lots of fizzy drinks is also bad Now this is where we are all different and you are best to do your own elimination diet to see what affects you , but wheat gluten MSG found in Chinese food are a big no no for me as are tomatoes grapefruit oranges .other olds I can take in small amounts but if I have for example strawberries two days in a row my skin breaks out I am lactose intolerant and basically cannot eat any food with preservatives so all my food is fresh and not ready made Red meat makes my joints ache and certain fish give me tummy problems put these all together and I need a wheelchair Took me years to find my triggers but I'm glad I know them cos I feel I'm in charge Boring yes and sometimes I pay for eating something I shouldn't Im not saying my health is good My many meds help but eating a good balanced diet of what is right for my body also helps Sorry this was so long but it is a minefield Goole fibro and diet and decide which route you feel is best for you Take care and I wish you all the best
i was told to drink decaffe tea which i do now it did take me weeks to get used to thou i was told to cut down on red meat which i did and very rarely eat it when i do now i feel sick anf cant eat it i lost 2 stone when started to be ill now my weight is up and down when im on flare and in bed for a week dont eat but weight myself and ive gained weight funny lol x
