Hi everyone, whenever I am out in the sun if only for 10 mins I burn and skin is red, I sometimes feel like a vampire if its a hot day and I am hanging the washing out my arms get itchy and feel like they are being burned by the sun, does anyone else have this and is it another thing that fibro does x

For me the same things happens but its because of my anti depressant it says on the very long leaflet do not go out in direct sunlight uncovered as your skin can burn very quickly and I found out very early on the leaflet was right I go red itchy lumpy and burn

I would say check your meds cos I have had fibro 23 years and its only since I found this great med combo 2 years ago that I have this problem . But it's a small price to pay for the sleep :)

If your meds don't say anything I would mention it to your GP or pharmacist

Hope that helps a little

Can I ask what ant d your taking I'm taking effexor and I get rashes in the sun. I'm wondering if it's the same one.

in reply tocopdber

Yes Effexor is on the the list of sun sensitivity ... There are an awful lot of anti depressants on the list so to be on the safe side... If you are on anti depressants I would say. Sun cream factor 50 or light layers of clothing ....

I take 100mg of sertraline for my depression x

Yes that one is on the list of meds that make you sensitive to sunlight and you can burn very quickly

Sorry :(

I suffer very similar symptoms as you x

That explains it then, thought I was turning into a vampire!! It's horrible, I'm not a sun person anyway because I am fair skinned but hate having to put a cardi on when its hot x

This is probably a sensitivity caused by medication, rather than fibro. I don't burn, as I am very olive-skinned, but when I was on duloxetine, i went red in the sun.

I didn't take it for very long, 'cos it made me feel terrible, and I don't have problems with the sun now.
