DLA Award........

Hi All,

Ive just been awarded DLA Lower Rate Care, after 2 tries and 1 tribunal.

I could appeal for the higher rate but ive got to the stage that i dont want to rock the boat, and will take what I have been given.

I got this award after a doctor came to my home for a medical, he didnt examine me or look round my flat.He just asked me questions and after 35 minutes made his assumptions and left.

How can a doctor who doesnt know you or what you have been through....KNOW what you need. Its not the greatest system, and I feel that to get the mobility part of DLA you have to be severely disabled.

I dont understand their decision when i am in the support group for ESA, none of it makes sense, but im glad its over now.

I hope anyone who applies gets it, but I think it depends on who the decison maker is.....

Thanks for all the support on this site.

Sue xx

I have the same mind set I get low rate care dla ... I have been getting it for four years... Despite me deteriorating due to arthritis I get no joy in getting any higher award so just take my dla .. A least I get it ... And using it to help myself the best I can with it..

Glad you got something

Glad you got something as all I seem to read is that the majority are turned down...can I just ask how long it was from your home medical for you to receive your decision? x

Hi, my medical was on a tuesday and I heard from DWP about 8 days later, so not long, but felt like a lifetime. Just glad its over now and dont have to worry too much about getting taxis to the shops or paying bills with the extra money. Not that its a fortune, but its something.

Yeh I know what you mean about all the negativity on the site about getting an award but its really true, i think its the luck of the draw, hope this helps x :)

I was in exactly the same situation, but my health has got some much worse with new debilitating illnesses also being diagnosed so I have just sent my form in asking for an upgrade and will see what happens. I had a medical done when I was awarded a blue badge, and asked for a copy of the OT's report which was very detailed, so sent that off as part of supporting evidence so hopefully that will help.

Hi Sue,

Congratulations on getting the DLA award. You're right in what you say, don't push your luck, your on the ladder now, so use it to your advantage at a later date if needed.

Well done once again.
