Letrozole as stimulation for AMH 0.01, high FSH

Hello everyone,

I have just entered a protocol and we are starting IVF once I get my period. In this clinic fertility specialist offered mild and letrozole of 5mg per day. I have doubts since I read it is for stimulation to get more follicles.

In the last years, the total number of follicles I had was 1, which in majority of cases grew to nice size of 18-20mm.

Is it worth to take letrozole? I have a feeling I wont get more than 1 anyway and no point to take it with high FSH. I also did a few stimulations with Gonal last year, again in total from antral to dominant had 1 follicle.

I dont know what to do, this medicine is for treatment of breast cancer, although been used successfully as side effect growing more follicles before collection by pushing FSH up. Mine is already high, some cycles it is 50 during empty ones. I had hormone imbalance after Gonal injections and now very careful with next steps.

Anyone who got pregnant by taking letrozole, could you let me know?

I am 41 now. Thank you so much in advance

I am 44 now but what I was told when I was 43 was my FSH was high and AMH was low 0.5 at the time. The AMH is - they told me the indicator of egg quality. I was told it’s not impossible but unlikely I would conceive and that it was those tests together that they believe was the cause of my repeated miscarriages. I have no experience of gonal as I opted not to go down ivf route as I didn’t see the benefit unless I was willing to do egg donor. It seems I am able to get pregnant easily but will lose it and my eggs are the issue.

I am unsure how follicles work in relation to egg quality but whilst you are born with all the eggs you get there has been some posts and information which suggest you *may* be able to improve egg quality with vitamins

It didn’t work for me but you are a bit younger than me so may be worth looking into now.

Wishing you luck

Hi Kel8018580

Thank you so much for reply. We tried naturally for few years, so with my it is getting pregnant step, which proves challenging.

If you are able to get pregnant, could it lower progesterone levels after ovulation?

I am have been taking q10, folic acid, prenatal for years, didn’t help so far. I am going to try ivf, just praying for my period. I have now longer cycles, used to be 25 and now 28 days.

Wishing you all the best and loads of hugs

lots have mentioned DHEA , and probiotics also as bacteria imbalance can interfere with it.

I’m on hRT now and last month conceived and lost again after a year of nothing so the extra hormones definitely have done something. For me I’m leaving it to chance now I’m 45 soon.

Good luck to you I wish I’d started at 41 but we didn’t meet until then! Not something you can just slap them with 🤣

Fingers crossed you get some support and answers x

i will research DHEA, thank you

We met when I was 36, then it took my partner a few years to get ready :). It is what it is, it may only take one egg in the end.

We keep on trying x

Try red light therapy - it has improved my AFC despite my low AMH (0.8-1.1). I have never taken Letrozole and have high FSH (38) as well. I have been taking estrogen priming to reduce FSH before stim.

Hello Passby2024,

Estrogen priming is injection of estrogen?

Can you do estrogen priming? That will ensure you get more follicles and they will grow at an even rate.

hi Spicycurry,

Do you mean injections like gonal ?

No. I mean the month before after your period and on cycle day 21 you start hrt which will lower fsh. You keep taking them until you get your period ready for the next cycle. Then if fsh is ok, you start meriofert and fostimon injections to grow follicles for egg collection.
