Progesterone levels with Prontogest or Lubion

Hi lovely Ladies,

I hope someone could help me to better understand absorption speed of progesterone injections.

If 100mg Prontogest was injected once intramuscularly, after how long progesterone level in blood will reach maximum? 12, 24, 36, or 48hr?

In comparation, if 25mg Lubion was injected once subcutaneously, after how long progesterone level in blood will reach maximum?

Will the maximal blood progesterone level reached by 100mg Prontogest be roughly 4 times higher than that by 25mg Lubion?

My daughter had a failed medicated FET in November. In that cycle, with 3x 400mg Cyclogest daily, her progesterone level on the day before transfer was 38nmol/L. In that evening, she followed doctor's instruction and added an injection of 100mg Prontogest. To our shock, two days (~36hr) later, on the day after the transfer her progesterone level was 130! I imagined her level on the transfer day could be 260! We were saddened since some studies indicated the optimal are 70-100nmol/L.

She started another medicated FET this month. This time, she is using 4x400mg Cyclogest and 1x 25mg Lubion daily from 5 days before transfer. Again, we just don't know what to expect. So nervous and worrying! Does she need to spend much money and travelling to test the levels every day?!

Best wishes for you all! xx

I’m sorry, I don’t have an answer to this… all I know is that I too had low progesterone on the day of my FET transfer and I was prescribed Prontogest every three days. I asked which was better, prontogest or lubion and there isn’t really a definitive answer. It really comes down to whether you prefer subcutaneous injection every day or intramuscular every 3. Plus the price difference (especially if you fall pregnant, you will be paying for lubion injections for up to 12 weeks).

Prontogest worked for me, quickly. I was also taking 6x Utrogestan a day. I’m currently 37 weeks pregnant 🙂

I hope this round is a successful one for your daughter 🩷

I wouldn’t overthink it your body absorbs what it needs to and some people absorb better with pessaries and some with injection. It sounds like she is on plenty of both. There is no need for daily progesterone testing (or even any at all) as the levels fluctuate throughout the day anyways so it’s not that helpful to compare them every day. She’s on plenty of progesterone and 2 different forms so her levels should be absolutely fine and there is no ‘too much’. Transfers fail for all sorts of reasons, including the embryo itself, but it sounds like she’s got progesterone well and truly covered for the next one 👍🏼 the cyclogest pessaries and lubion injection combo worked for me (both stopping early bleeding in 2Ww and on my medicated successful FET was what he as taking) best of luck! Thank you for your advice which reduced my worry a bit. It's always good to hear people's real experiences, in addition to online readings.

My daughter has a batch of embryos made of donor eggs and donor sperm and this is last one of the batch, the lowest grade (day-6 3BC). We feel as if the current cycle already failed. She plans to have more embryos made of this type. But not sure to do PGTA or not. Never ending challenges!

Wish you all the best. xx
