Super light period, PCOS, thin lining and scarring- Help!

Hello everyone,

I hope everyone is doing ok.

I used to have reasonably ‘normal’ periods, lasting 5-7 days and a reasonable bleed each day that would fill a pad or tampon. Recently my periods have been really light, and getting lighter, like literally a red smudge on a pad for a couple of days.

I’ve previously had scarring in my uterus which has now been removed. I’ve read that if you have scarring it can be a cause of light periods. So I’m now worried in case it has come back 🙁

I asked my consultant who said it could be scarring or my PCOS, however it’s only this year that it’s been so light.

I’m in that awful position of waiting for my period, after it didn’t start and then after taking Provera for 5 days. I’m really worried in case it’s super light again, and should I go ahead and risk wasting some embryos which I did all last year when I didn’t realise I had the scarring 🙁

So just wanted to know if anyone else has really light periods and if that had an impact on transfers? Or if anyone has PCOS and experienced this?

Or if anyone knows any other way to check for scarring other than another hysteroscopy (I’ve had 4!)

thank you xxx

I have pcos and (maybe this is just me) but sometimes my periods are light. Sometimes heavy and I got through times when they are regular (weirdly 32 days at the moment) and times where I don’t have periods for months. So it might just be your body struggling to regulate your hormones a bit?

I also didn’t bleed after provera and when I asked the consultant, he said the dose was probably too low. Northisterone always worked for me but is more expensive. Worth asking if you haven’t tried it (it’s vile and does make you a bit of a premenstral monster but does bring on a bleed).

I think that not having a proper bleed can impact your lining quality and therefore whether an embryo will implant but I’m by no means an expert.

I don’t know about other tests for scarring but if the consultant is suggesting it might be pcos, would hormone blood tests help to determine that? Have you had your Amh tested recently? If it’s super high, I think that can impact too (mine was crazy high when I had it tested when I had stopped having periods). At least then you know what’s going on?

I’ve never been officially diagnosed with PCOS although myself & a couple of my Dr’s are pretty sure of it with all my symptoms. I do have endometrial cancer though (under control) which was treated with hormones & caused me to have thin endometrial lining & likely have some scarring with having multiple endometrial biopsies.

+ consequently I had light periods after taking the Mirena coil out.

They’ve always checked my endometrial thickness before attempting to go ahead with any FET.

After the first attempt they added in Sildenafil (Viagra) to my protocol to help grow my endometrial lining which worked. Though it has only ever been measured as 7mm thick.

I’m currently 10+2 weeks pregnant after my 2nd FET.

Wishing you all the best x

I can’t answer all of your questions but I have polycystic ovaries and light periods. I have always been concerned about this because in my teens I had insanely heavy periods. Mine are not as light as you’ve described but they move very slowly. At most I have one day where I need a tampon (a regular one), the rest of the time I am bleeding brown blood and don’t even need a tampon. Someone else mentioned Norethisterone and my withdrawal bleed from this is solid and what I would perceive as being normal. So perhaps there’s some merit in it. Have you tracked ovulation with ovulation tests? I did this to rule out it being because I didn’t ovulate. When you have had your transfers previously how thick does your lining get?

Finally, I can’t say yet about the impact but I’m on my third transfer and this time my lining got thicker faster than previous cycles and I needed less drugs to get it there. I am 10dpt and currently testing positive. I also have adenomyosis xx
