Good day ladies,

I am in great need of help. I am 42 years old and have been trying to get pregnant for 7 years. I have had 2 unsuccessful IVF attempts. I have always had PCOS. It's been three months since I finished my last IVF cycle, and my last two cycles have had more bleeding than usual and have lasted longer. My estradiol level is low. I don’t understand anything anymore. Have I officially entered perimenopause, or is this problem caused by PCOS? I can’t figure out if the long menstruations are due to a lack of estradiol or progesterone. I would appreciate it if you could explain because it’s very difficult with doctors. No one explains anything.

Hi Jenni. PCOS usually produces light periods. I wonder if you may have endometriosis or even a fibroid causing the bleeding. Perhaps a hysteroscopy could find this out, and take a biopsy of the lining too. Just my thoughts, but worth asking. Thinking of you. Diane

hello Jenisa, I’ve had PCOS my entire life and for many many years my periods were heavy and long - I’m talking about 12 days, the first 3-4 of which I needed to stay in bed in order not to pass out as the flow was so strong. I don’t know why that happened, but I can assure you I was NOT in perimenopause at all.

I wouldn’t take the strength/weakness of your period as an indicator of perimenopause. My suggestion would be to talk to your doctors and ask to get your blood checked so that they can understand more. If you’re not satisfied with the answers given or they’re not clear enough, speak with different doctors. Please don’t jump to conclusions 💙

Sending you love
