The risk is pretty low. Neither of my clinics tested for CMV so my status is unknown. My donor was CMV positive and noone was concerned. I have 2 healthy babies.

Hi, My clinic tests CMV and advises a CMV negative donor if you're negative because they don't want you to be exposed to it for the first time and you fall pregnant.

Same as with Tarasunny. I don't know my CMV status and it isn't something that our clinic seemed concerned about when it came to donor selection. From what I gather quite a large proportion of the population is CMV positive. However if in doubt definitely speak to your clinic.

CMV is pretty much like a cold, not really an issue for healthy people. In blood transfusion patients and donors are CMV matched only if the patient is immunosuppressed or situations like that. As mentioned before, a high percentage of population is CMV pos. If your protocol does not involve steroids you would probably be fine and strong enough to protect the baby.

Our donor is cmv positive and me negative. There is little to no risk with IVF as you don’t ever come into contact with the donor sperm directly. We have a healthy little boy and using same donor to try (and try!) for a sibling. It’s defo not one of the factors that was important to us when choosing, a nice to have only. The way I see it is people make babies naturally every day without any idea of each others CMV status 🤗 xx

Ps I had to sign a disclaimer at the clinic way at the start to say I was fine with it and after I signed it the nurse said ‘most people do the same’ xx

yes, my sperm donor is CMV positive and I am negative. I asked the sperm bank and also the clinic about this and they both said low risk as I don’t come into contact with the sperm, just the embryo.

I have a 2.5 year old son from that donor and my pregnancy was totally straight forward and my son healthy so I believe the risks are tiny.

What did your clinic say?

Hi - I appreciate this is an old post but did you go ahead with the CMV positive donor? I'm in the same predicament now but feel that other couples aren't worrying about things like this when procreating lol.
