Donor eggs: Indian donor in Europe?

Hi all, hubby and I have a lovely frostie we will be transferring at the end of this year. But as always, I like to have a plan B so we are now researching donor eggs (my amh was last tested 18 months ago and was about 5.2 and I will suspect it to have naturally declined since then). Obviously, I’d hope that we could try with my own eggs but if for whatever reason we can’t, we have already accepted an alternative route via donor eggs.

However, I am of Indian descent and my lovely hubby is white British. We’d prefer to use an Indian donor (and preferably altruistically) but I’ve heard this is quite challenging to find! Just wanted to ask for anyone in the same boat as me (from an ethnic minority background/mixed couple) who has had a successful experience with donor eggs?

I don't know much about this sorry, but the Fertility Show in London and Manchester had loads of info on egg donors and I am sure you could find out more there. Good luck x

Maybe an agency like Altrui might have a larger pool of donors as they are UK wide? Or perhaps treatment abroad - I seem to recall some of the South African donor agencies I looked at had some Asian donor profiles, and I believe there are some excellent clinics in India which also offer egg donor treatment. You may have already considered these ideas of course! In the meantime I wish you success with your FET treatment ❤ xx

Hi Wishingfortheday! Amazing, thank you :) I will look into that. Did you find any luck with a donor egg from the South African agency? I have looked into donor eggs in India, but the more and more research I am doing makes me feel a bit uncomfortable as there is a whole ethics debate around agencies/clinics exploiting women in India for eggs, etc :( That is a whole different topic, but for now I think I donors from India is a last resort for me, until I do a bit more research. But thank you! Best of luck for your treatment :) x

I would just speak to your clinic, they may have partners abroad which may have Indian egg donors. I’m sure you’d find one in a donor bank across Europe, they usually have at leat a tiny selection of ethic minority (frozen) eggs. for sure from the USA you’d find something . For import you will need a licensed ivf clinic to receive the frozen donor eggs, so your best bet is to speak to your clinic for help.

Best of luck 🙂

Hi Carmel1001, thank you for your reply! I will send an email to our clinic to see if they have any partners abroad so I can continue researching. I am trying to do all the 'work' for a plan B now, in case our FET fails and then we can move on quickly. Preparing for the worst, hoping for the best 🤞🏾 xx

I’m in the same situation as our embryo transfer ended in chemical pregnancy last year. I was also told that finding an Indian donor would be very difficult so without wanting to delay we decided to go to a Spanish clinic in Madrid who said my donor is likely to be Spanish and have similar physical characteristics as me. It means I don’t have to delay and can move forward with a DE cycle. Having a healthy baby is the key thing. You could consider this perhaps if you struggle to find an Indian donor in Europe or I do know of someone who had a successful donor cycle in India. But I’m not sure if it was altruistic. Good luck and I hope it works out for you.

Hi EK20, I am sorry to hear about your chemical pregnancy :( Regarding egg donor, it's funny you mentioned choosing to go with a Spanish donor. Only this weekend, I met with a friend who is half English and half Egyptian who was told she'd have to wait 18 months for an Egyptian donor! As she has quite a Spanish complexion anyway, she decided to use a Spanish donor and it took her 2 months to be matched with a donor (and that was her being a bit picky!). Thank you for replying and best of luck with your DE cycle :) x

Hi KDA,

I am in a similar position to you. We moved on to donor eggs last year and my ethnicity is South East Asian and my fiancee is white British. If you are not specific when it comes to the nationality of the donor it could be slightly easier and you might not need to wait too long. We ended up going on the egg share waiting list at our clinic in the UK (as we wanted the ID release) and a SE Asian donor finally came through but we waited almost a year. We also looked in to donor eggs from a different donor agency which worked together with another UK clinic. It took about 2 months for them to find a donor and another 4 months for the eggs for the eggs to arrive at the clinic. Please PM me if you would like more info. We also have 1 more frostie to use! Fingers crossed. Best of luck with your upcoming FET. x

Hi Andromedae9, thank you for replying! Wow, a 4 month turn-around is pretty amazing! I was here expecting 18month minimum wait, so that time frame is very encouraging.

Brilliant news about the frostie too - it is always reassuring to know there are frostie's in the bank, should they be required.

I do have a couple of other questions, so I will PM you :) xx
