polyp after stims

hi,

Just wondering if anyone has experienced this.

Done two rounds of ivf. All baseline scans clear, no polyps. After stims the scan has now shown a polyp.

The polyp only seems to be there after stims. I haven’t got as far as a transfer yet. Consultant has advised a hysteroscopy (year waiting list) or to try a natural cycle FET.

Has anyone experienced this? Polyps after stim meds? And how did you manage this?

Thank you

I think it's worth getting it checked again when your body has calmed down a bit - I was told I had a polyp on my first medicated FET and that they wanted to cancel but it had never shown up before and it turned out to be an area of thickened womb lining that evened out when we reduced the oestrogen right down. If it is a polyp then others can advise but I was told they aren't necessarily an issue but they can be so best thing is to have a scan (aquascan/3d or even better hysteroscopy) and they can confirm then decide what to do. But I had exactly the same concern re NHS waits so I investigated private - was basically no wait but cost varied a lot and was especially expensive if done under GA. If they're suggesting a natural FET that may be a good solution though as it sounds like the polyp or whatever it is is being caused/aggravated by stims and probably oestrogen, so you may be able to still do a transfer that way without the risk or wait. It took me ages to get my clinic to agree to a natural FET (they don't like them as they're difficult to schedule) but it was definitely my preference to go down that route for various reasons, so great if your clinic is already suggesting this.

Thanks so much for your reply and advice. Clinic are keen for a natural cycle. I did have a scan a few months after my first round when all had calmed down and surprise surprise no polyp!

This happened to me and I had to get a hysteroscopy and the polyp removed - the wait was about 7 months. Really sorry, it's so frustrating x

I guess my concern is that it’s only ever triggered by all the hormones, when I’ve had a break and had a scan then it’s not there! All frustrating and just delays things again. It’s awful all of this, thank you for your reply x

Mine grew due to the stim hormones but once it grew, it wasn't going anywhere without being surgically removed. Weird that yours disappeared on a repeat scan x

I had this twice after my very first cycle and then again at my last OE cycle . All clear at the beginning both times. The polyp appeared during the monitoring scans. In my first cycle which was NHS the doctors went ahead with the transfer. At the time I didn't have a clue how pointless the transfer was. Not only I had the polyp which immediately should have made them postpone but I was also hospitalised after my retrieval. I have an autoinflammatory condition which was triggered by the process. So that transfer was doomed. I had a polypectomy a few months after.

It then reappeared on my last OE cycle in a private clinic abroad. I had a hysteroscopy at the same time as the retrieval at the clinic. All good since then.

Hi, I have just had a miscarriage and they said it could have been due to a polyp. Now I'm schedule for a hysteroscopy. How soon after the polyp removal did you go for transfer?

I am sorry for your loss. First I had the polyp removed in April and the transfer was August. But I think it could have been sooner. It was an NHS clinic and everything seemed to take longer than it should.

Thanks for your reply and I hope you are doing well

thank you. I guess if I can do a natural transfer with no hormones my polyp won’t be triggered. Whenever I have had scans before the stims it’s never there, so my concern I guess is having a hysteroscopy and there won’t even be a polyp there to remove!

Only seeing a polyp when doing stims makes sense to me based on my experiences with them. I've had two before starting IVF and I tend to know when I get them because my periods get heavier and I might also spot around ovulation or after intercourse from what I remember. They seem to be sensitive to any hormone influx and bleed when that happens, but that's just my experience.

I've seen a few doctors about it and no one really knows why you get them, a gyno even said "some people just seem to constantly get them". My acupuncturist seems to believe that it's an issue of too much estrogen and my body not regulating it well, and I suppose that she's working on that in our sessions. Either way, knock on wood, I haven't gotten one going through IVF (last August, though I haven't had estrogen in my protocol) and so far so good since seeing her (from January). So you could try a fertility acupuncturist potentially as well, though no one truly knows.

When I've spoken to one of the senior consultants at my clinic about this, he didn't seem too bothered by it, so I suppose that if your clinic gave you the option of a natural FET, you could just do that and in the meantime get yourself on the NHS lists for a procedure. It might be a good idea to look inside anyway (they go in with a camera and check all walls), for your own peace of mind. Mine started out as a one year waiting list but they got to me after 6 months. Initially they tried doing it while awake in the clinic, but I personally couldn't take the pain and I had to be put under anaesthetic. It depends on the person's pain threshold and how big the polyps are. Also, sometimes they just pass on their own. That also happened to me.

Good luck! xx

Thank you so much for your reply. I have been reading about acupuncture so will give that a go too. I’ve had a polyp removed before (have endometriosis which was removed last year), little buggers reappearing! X

I hate them! I go into every scan with the anxiety that they reappeared 🤦🏻‍♀️ good luck and hope your transfer goes well whenever you choose to do it xx

I had polyps after stims and I was told by the nurses stimming can cause polyps. I had polyp removed before a FET and then had another one appear two months later, so had to have it removed twice.
