My medicated FET in Jan ended in BFN. In Feb, I started irregular bleeding and the bleeding lasted for two months. My IVF clinic offered me a scan and found that I have a polyp of 1cm. Now I am waiting for a NHS scan and subsequently a procedure to remove the polyp. My IVF consultant said there's no connection between IVF treatment and polyps. But I suspect all those hormones (I was given a heavy dose - pills, gels and injections) could have been the cause of the polyp. Otherwise it is too much of a coincidence. I had a 3D SIS before the FET and my womb was nice and smooth.
Has this happened to anyone else? How did you carry on your IVF journey from there? Thanks.

Hi LRed, I had a polyp spotted after a failed FET. Also about 1cm (just under) I had it removed before my next FET. Unfortunately that failed too but the dr was keen that it was gone anyway. I’ve not had another one since. Good luck x
During my FET I had a suspected polyp found at the final scan before the transfer. I chose to carry on with the transfer and it failed. I had a hysteroscopy to investigate if it was a polyp and because it was small they just removed it during the investigation.
I had loads of scans before and it had not been seen on any of those so I suspected it had grown due to the estrogen I took during the process. My consultant also tried to reassure me that wasn’t the case.
Interesting that no consultant seems to want to acknowledge the connection between IVF and polyp. Of course it doesn't happen to everyone, but there are certainly people like you and me who are more sensitive to the medications and can be affected...
Hi LRed, I've just had my FET cycle cancelled because of a polyp. I was told by my clinic that some women's lining is sensitive to the medication and that the oestrogen medications cause them to grow if you're prone to them. I have to wait for an appointment for removal now too x
I’ve had several polyps and had one before I started IVF. There is no link between the two.
I understand they don’t know why woman get polyps, what IVF medication can to is enhance a polyp, I had a polyp that was 16mm after taking IVF meds, by the time the NHS saw me it had dropped out.
The NHS won’t re scan you as such you will just have the treatment to remove it. I watched the removal of mine on the TV screen.
It also depends where your polyp is situated, I have a permanent one of the back wall of my uterus which is under the lining of the skin and doesn’t impact on anything
This is my first polyp, so I couldn't help but linking it with IVF....
Do you mean the polyp just disappeared by ''dropped out''? That would be great if it happens to me! :DYou are very brave to watch the removal! I thought most people need to be sedated for the procedure, no?
Alot of woman can get polyps. I had a staff member who had several and had never had iVF treatment- unfortunately no one knows if there susceptible to them, the only indication you may have them is bleeding between periods or after sex - obviously you would still need to be checked to confirm.
Private hospitals will fully sedate you, but charge you about £2500 for the privalage.
The NHS won’t sedate you, you don’t even get offered any anestetic.
It’s not that bad you just feel like you have a bit of a stomach ache. All I say is make sure you take a sanitary pad with you as they use water on their probe.
Possibly not what you want to hear but I’m not one to tell little lies as that’s not fair!
Yes my second one had obviously fallen out when they went in and had a look. A polyp is a bit like a fleshy mass
Just wanted to give you an update: I had an ultrasound scan at a NHS hospital this afternoon and they didn't see any polyp! ''Anything can happen'', said the doctor. Feeling very hopeful and positive 😀
