Lazy ovary after IVF stims without down regulation

Hi everyone,

I was wondering whether anyone else went into IVF treatment with both ovaries functioning properly, but then one ovary didn't respond well to the stims and 7 months on, that ovary is still a bit lazy. I've searched this topic on the forum and it seems that women tend to get a lazy ovary from down regulation, but I haven't had down regulation as I was on a short protocol so it's all very baffling to me.

For context:

June 2023 - AMH 14.4 with 6L and 5R follicles on the scan

August 2023 - 6L and 8R on day 4 of cycle, started stims, then day 14 of cycle I had grown 4L (all pretty small) and 7R, but we collected only 7 and out of those only 4 were mature enough, all from the right. So the left ovary didn't respond very well to the treatment

March 2024 - AMH 8.4 with 2L and 5R. So not only my left ovary didn't respond to the previous stims, but now it's gone a bit lazy and I assume that the doctor is hoping to stimulate it with a higher dose of Menopur and Gonal F

Has this happened to anyone and have they managed to "wake up" that lazy ovary? Or do they tend to reduce follicle production with age?

Thank you!

so this is a very unscientific response but I seem to have a ‘lazy’ ovary every second month since being on IVF so if my round falls on that alternative month one ovary then doesn’t seem to have as many follicles and way behind the other. No idea why at all 🤷🏻‍♀️ it’s doesn’t seem to make much of a difference to my overall embryos to day 5 though in the scheme of things xx

Thanks for sharing, how interesting! We’ll see how the new combo treatment works this time round

I had a similar response on Menopur, clinic switched me to Pergoveris with a flare protocol and both ovaries responded.

How interesting, thanks for sharing! First one was Menopur only and now they’ll try Menopur + Gonal F, hopefully that will kick it into gear
