Injection advice

I'm on day two of am injections. Day one went fine but today it stung a bit, bled afterwards and I've now got a lump which looks like it could turn into a bruise almost two inches wide. What did I do wrong? Any advice? I'm going to run out of thigh if this happens every day! :-(

Hi Vickal,

I can't comment for definite on the thigh, I did my injections in my belly (I thought everyone did but I am obviously mistaken) but I had a couple of occasions where the AM injections (I did Cetrotide) had a lump afterwards. They tend to go down after a couple of hours. With regards to the blood, you probably hit a small blood vessel and usually ok, but if you have any worries I would call your clinic to be on the safe side.

Good luck with your treatment xx

Thanks Kjornsby, I was told to use my thighs unless I have any problems then I should use my tummy. I have a scan at the clinic tomorrow so I will ask them just to make sure it's ok.

I really don't like injections so I was hoping this would go smoothly! xx

I am a complete needle-phobe but just remember that you are doing it for the best possible reason :-)

(I still have a phobia, freaked out with acupuncture only last week and I did the injections for over 3 weeks before xmas!) Good luck xxx

Hello. I to had issues with Injecting. Would feel faint and sick At the sight but now am ok ish with them. I sometimes had this to when I rushed the injection or pulled needle our quickly. It went within a couple of hours. So don't worry. Your not doing anything wrong. Lots of love and hugs. ️Xxx

I had a massive bruise on my tummy. It looked terrible! My clinic said it was fine, just uncomfortable.

Hi, sorry to hear you are struggling. From my experience, I had a lump and a bruise because I had squeezed the area too hard before injecting - after that I just pinched a little bit and it was fine. I know it's quite an obvious thing to say but make sure you change the injection site each time - just work your way across your tummy! My skins was a little irritated after but this usually calmed down within a couple of hours. I also found it nice to wear cotton and loose fitting clothes. Hope this helps and good luck! xxx

I tried the other leg but bizarrely this felt more difficult to do so went back to the other one! I bleed a little and bruised a little too sometimes so I don't think you've done anything wrong, it's just the nature of the beast. I did find though that if I was as relaxed as I could be doing it then it hurt less afterwards. Easier said than done mind!

Thanks guys, my lump has turned into a purple bruise and looks awful but the clinic assures me its fine. All the others so far have gone ok. The nurse said I may have hit a blood vessel and I should try to avoid the faint blue lines on my thighs - wow that makes me sound really attractive!

Been having terrible headaches, abdominal cramps and just can’t concentrate at work. The little info leaflet says that all of these are side effects of the Buserelin. Not having fun right now :-( just keep thinking of the end goal to try to get through this tough spot.

Good luck to everyone else going through this too xx

Hi when I did my injections I never had any problems and some I couldn't even feel at all, only the cold liquid going in which sometimes gives a little sting but it's just the temperature of the liquid compared to body temp. I done mine in my tummy, my clinic said thigh or tummy is just the same and down to preference of what works best. I always rubbed the area of my tummy then pinched it slightly and pierced the skin with the needle at a slight angle then pushed it in straight. The best area for me was just below my belly button, I alternated left and right each day and tried to inject in a fresh site each day. Good luck, it will get easier. Xx p.s I too suffered headaches and cramps but that gets better once you start the next drugs. The things we have to do...but I'd stand on my head for a month if they told me to lol. Hopefully all worth it in the end :) x

All my injections went fine so far (2 ivf cycles) thanks to the following tips I followed religiously:

1. Put an ice pack on the area a few minutes before injection (minimum 5min)

2. Inject the belly with light pinching

3. Injection should be SUPER SLOW (i.e. I stop and count to 5 every 25 units)

4. Wait 10 seconds before removing the needle and put the ice pack back on for a few more minutes.

Hope this helps! Lots of love to all x
