I was refused nhs funded ivf with an AMH of 2. And a partner with obstructive azoospermia. I didn’t appeal because of my partner and we wanted to get his sperm retrieval done privately anyway. I hope your appeal works. Fingers crossed for you xx
Hello, very sorry for your upsetting news. I have no experience with appealing, but well done! It's worth trying ! Please check on line the fertility policy of the ICB in your area: mine is North london, and they look at 3 parameters around the ovarian reserve : AMH, FSH, and antral follicular count (AFC). At least two of these 2 parameters have to be within their range to apply for the funding . Perhaps you have a similar fertility policy, and the other parameters are eligible.
that’s quite a stark difference in figures. Are you sure the units for the amh level are the same for the private tests and the NHS one? Different providers use different measuring units with different reference ranges , so good to check that against your local fertility policy- all ICBs should have one and you should be able to find it on their website. Best wishes!
Although the say it doesn't matter when during your cycle they check AMH it does, especially for older women or DOR women. The units matter as Coffeeone says and the swings you state are wild. Ask for units on the NHS ones and compare to guidelines units.
In my case I had AMH taken around ovulation and it was 0.4ng/ml - this is very subfurtile. The next month (2 weeks later) I had the same test with day 3 bloods and it was 1 25ng/ml (normal for 39yo). Same test during day 3 bloods 3mo later 1.3ng/ml. There is a wee bit written about this and AMH is seen as most accurate as a day 3 test. Around ovulation your dominate follicle kills off everything else growing and this is believed to be an AMH suppressor. When you have high AMH the impact of this supression is less noticable.
In my case I had very good AFC so the very low AMH result didn't make sense. They use AMH to figure out if they'll be able to recruit follicles (same reason they look at AFC) so maybe have a AFC as this can be a better predictor of success with IVF.
