medicated vs natural cycle for FET - any tips?

hi everyone, I’m 9dp5dt (fresh transfer) and tested negative and have my period. We have one frozen embryo and my clinic have said we can choose to do a medicated or natural cycle for the FET, they will discuss in more detail in the coming weeks but ultimately said it will be our decision. This is our first round so I’m quite new to all this and have no idea - does anyone have any advice / tips for either? I’ve been on cyclogest 2 x a day since my transfer and started my period on day 8 so think maybe that doesn’t help me?. Thanks so much in advance for any advice x

Hi Prettypenny1, I've never done a natural FET so can't help on that side of things, but I had a similar response to my first fresh transfer. I was told my progesterone was probably too low which caused the bleed, and on my subsequent rounds I've been given more progesterone on a medicated FET (2 x cyclogest and 1 x Lubion) and have not had the same issue again. It is quite common and something they can deal with fairly easily, but perhaps a medicated FET might give you more peace of mind as all the levels are more precisely controlled and less reliant on your body producing normal levels of hormones itself x

Hi lovely, thank you for your response. I think I’ll be leaning towards medicated definitely if they up the meds. You’re right it would definitely give more piece of mind xx

hi, so sorry for your news I know it’s a devastating feeling💔

When I first started my journey the same thing happened to me, in first transfer which was fresh I started bleeding at 8days post transfer so I think it’s quite common even tho on progesterone.

All my next cycles were frozen, I did have the option of a natural cycle but unfortunately couldn’t take it as covid put a lot of restrictions back then.

I always thought a natural transfer would suit better myself although after every transfer I had a very low progesterone which is not great.

I would say consider discussing your progesterone levels with your consultant, I remember they were always quite positive in my case due to age etc but at then end was always very low.

every case is different so it’s best to discuss pros and cons.

Hope that helps and wish you all the best🩵

Hi Prettypenny. If you have a regular cycle, then perhaps try natural. See what you think. Diane
