Painful cramps on progesteron - will it stop implantation?

Hi,I started progesteron injections along with 2 x pills per day a couple of days ago. My levels this morning - transfer day - were 10.49ngml so the doctor added progesteron pessaries too. However I am getting a lot of cramping from the progesteron and am worried it will prevent implantation? I am 42yrs and it is a 3-day transfer, second try. I remember I had terrible cramps from progesterone the first time round too, which failed.

Has anyone else had bad cramps from progesterone meds and successful implantation?! Or know how to counteract them?

Hi, I have always had very bad period type cramps from early on, it’s the hormones and I’ve found no way to reduce it. The only way I would know I’m not bleeding is checking in the toilet, and it’s such a worry, I totally understand feeling like “how could I be pregnant when I have such bad cramping all the time?” But it didn’t stop implantation for me, and I’ve read lots of similar stories on pregnancy forums of people having bad cramps all through the first and second trimesters from just natural pregnancy too. They tell you take paracetamol but it doesn’t do much. Sorry I can’t help with any solution, I just try to distract myself with a good movie or something, fingers crossed this time will be a success for you xx

The doctor has suggested magnesium, and a muscle relaxant called no-spa if they get bad. Going to see if that helps! Very glad to hear it worked with cramps though!!! Thank you 😊

Yes I remember now my clinic did suggest magnesium as well but I was already taking magnesium in my daily vitamins. Good luck, I hope it improves and everything goes well xx

you can try taking them rectally and see if that eases the cramping, although it is a common side affect so shouldn’t affect the transfer 🤗 but not fun all the same! I did find as the days went on and my body got used to it the cramps ease off xx

Hi Dogbiscuit. It could be a side effect of the progesterone, it may be an infection. It won’t affect implantation. Drink plenty of water and keep an eye on urine output. Avoid constipation too. Good luck. Diane
