I have had a fresh embryo transfer and I was told to stop taking progesterone pessaries on the day of my pregnancy test whether it is a BFP or BFN. Everything else I read says to continue taking progesterone for up to 12 weeks of pregnancy. I only have enough pessaries for a few days post testing.
What are people’s thoughts on this and has anybody else had the same situation with their clinic? If I do get a BFP could I ask them to prescribe me pessaries for up to 12 weeks or are there downsides to that?
Thank you!!!

Yes, I will do. I just didn’t really think about it at the time they told me. It’s not until I’m coming closer to my test date, running low on pessaries and started looking into it. I didn’t know whether it was a common thing or not?
In my clinic they only do progesterone until test day for fresh transfers no matter what the outcome is (as your body should be able to produce progesterone itself after that), but in FET they give progesterone the first 12 weeks if you get a BFP. You can get more progesterone for fresh transfers if you have a history of recurrent miscarriages or spotting before testday, but not otherwise. So it does seem to be routine in some clinics.
I continued cyclogest 12 weeks after my BFP from a fresh transfer on advice from the clinic...definitely check this as it seemed to be standard practice at my clinic to continue
My clinic recommended the same but I had done some reading and decided I would like to keep taking the progesterone as I’d had a previous miscarriage with our only other transfer and my reading suggesting continuing might help prevent it happening again. I phoned and spoke to my clinic about it and they agreed that if I got a positive test I could call in and let them know and they would organise more pessaries for me to collect that day. Their view was I either took them just the 2 weeks till testing or I took them for 12 weeks (actually by the time I finished the number in the boxes it was 13 weeks) but they were fine with it. I’m now 23 weeks, I have no idea whether it helped but I’m glad I pushed for it and kept taking them. Good luck! X
Our clinic is 2 weeks for fresh cycle and 12 weeks for frozen, I’ve never had a fresh BFP so can’t comment on the success of it but they’ve said with fresh body should be making its own progesterone by then xx
I got told there are no downsides to taking them for the full time but I got told to stop at my 7 week scan because they could see my ovaries were making hormones. I was still a bit nervous stopping but all was okay. Seems early to stop at pregnancy test day before the scan
hi Wigwamtigerlily I hope you don't mind me commenting so long after your post. I have just come across this in a search as I have been told the same by my clinic and I am terrified of stopping them. Did your clinic extend the pessaries for you? Many thanks xx
