Just wanted some advice please. After 3 fails in a row (and low quality frozen embryos), I have requested a double transfer for my next ivf round. My clinic are not supportive of a double transfer (they prefer single transfers due to risks etc). However I feel very strongly about a double transfer. Do I have any rights on this? I'm not keen to move clinic even though I know another clinic would do a double transfer. Has any one been in this position too and can share their experience? Thanks all xxx

Hi, I had 1 miscarriage 1failed transfers and 3rd I requested a double transfer my consultant spoke to me about the risks, but also said that it does double your chances of getting pregnant he said if they were high grade like our first 2 he would of said no but because they were middle and low he agreed to one of each. I would definitely push it. We are currently 10weeks pregnant with 1 baby so I'm glad we opted for 2 as which one took no one will ever know xxx
Thanks 1418 rose and congratulations on being 10 weeks pregnant 💕 I'm really going to push for it for the next round and great to hear you had a positive experience xxx
Hi it defo doesn’t double your chances of getting pregnant! It does increase the chance slightly though (by what percentage will depend on your age etc. but I think roughly by 10% from memory). I have had several double transfers but the first one my clinic wasn’t supportive because I was younger then. I had to sign something to say I was doing it against their advice and had to hear again all the risks from the lead consultant but they then did it. That round was a misscariage but they first time I ever saw a bfp. It was a single transfer that did work for me but I do t regret trying the double transfer as I felt strongly about it at that stage in the way it sounds you do so you defo have rights. The clinic have targets to hit on multiple birth pregnancies so they do have to reduce the chance of twins in their transfers. As your previous reply has said if it’s lower grade embryos that can also sometimes sway their level of support for double transfer. Defo push your current clinic to find out of their is something you can sign to accept the risks yourself and why in your particular case they think double shouldn’t happen even after 3 unsuccessful rounds etc. so you dont just get the standard response was the best approach I found xx
HI JOJO. I can fully understand your reason for transferring two embryos. No need to go through the possible risks as you will have thought about and discussed it all. Just have another look through the information on our website and the HFEA website soyou can tell your clinic you are well informed before your final decision. I wish you well with your decision and good luck. Diane
After two unsuccessful transfers with “top grade” embryos, my consultant advised a double transfer as it increases chances of at least one embryo sticking around by 8%. My embryos at the time were two 3BBs. I got a BFP with that transfer but it sadly shortly after. We moved clinics, did a fresh cycle again and transferred two embryos again (alongside so many different things such as steroids, increased progesterone and increased blood thinners). My two transferred embryos are now by 14 month year old twins.
We transferred two the fourth time in the hope of having one, and we were blessed with two. I’d say if you’re transferring two, in the hope of one, be prepared for twins too. I really pushed for a double transfer in the beginning and my consultant didn’t agree but then with the third, she said let’s try it!
It should be your choice xx
J0J0123 Hey,
I dont have experience but just wanted to say I'm in the same boat, I've had 2 good embryos as fresh transfers that have failed. Now the clinics have actually said lets do your last two lower grade embryos as a double frozen transfere. They are 3bcs. I am trying not to get hopes up as they are lower grade but I've heard success stories of people in the same position that had a double transfere that resulted in thier pregnancy. Fingers crossed for us xxx
