Double trigger injection

Double trigger & over mature egg question!! It has been suggested that I have a double trigger for my next round of IVF. I have previously had rounds where my follicles have got too big and I've been told they were empty but my new embryologist says there's not really such a thing as an empty follicle he said the egg is probably there but it hasn't come away from the side of the follicle because it didn't mature therefore says a double trigger might help. Anyone have any experience of this? I think they said they would use use buserelin as a trigger but I don't get that as it's a Down reg drug so how on Earth could that help or perhaps I'm missing something 🤦‍♀️

Also can an egg be over mature? as in the eggs that are already mature from just one trigger injection can they get ruined from having another? Thanks

Anyone that has had a round of IVF with and without a double trigger would be great to hear from - did you get better results with the double Trigger?

Hi Flora14,

I’ve done two rounds with a single trigger and two rounds with a double trigger. Most of my collected eggs were mature but they didn’t develop very well so we were told it would give them a last boost to help quality. It definitely made a difference for us as the two rounds with a double trigger were the only ones we got to day 5 on.

I used buserlin for one of the triggers on my last round, it definitely didn’t over mature my eggs and resulted in my 5 month old daughter 😊xxx

Hi thanks that's really good to know we always get to day 5 but they're not often very good quality. So did you use buserelin and ovitrell for one of your rounds then? That's good to know it didn't make them to mature thank you.x

What dose of buserelin did you get given also? Or is it the same for everyone or does it differ?

Hi Flora, not sure if this answer will confuse things- but I had 1 round with low dose buserelin trigger, it was a poor result as eggs not mature. 1 round with a higher dose buserelin- fantastic result. 1 round double trigger of ovitrelle- good result but OHSS.From my experience it seems a high dose of buserelin works and it’s typically used as a trigger for women who are prone to OHSS. Hope it works for you, I got my bfp from it xx

Unfortunately I'm not at risk of ohss might sound silly but I wish I was as I am the opposite and I don't produce many eggs. How much buserelin do they give you then? Did you ever have ovitrelle and buserrlin together? Thanks x

One cycle I had around 30 follicles. 0.5ml buserelin matured them all. A different clinic have me double dose of ovitrelle when I only had 15 follicles and knowing my history they still opted for that over buserelin. So that was a higher trigger for fewer follicles. It seems to be more common now so maybe there is some new research supporting it.

I don’t think they can over mature, they said it was just to make sure they could get them all. I also had an experience where 0.3ml buserelin trigger wasn’t enough and it was so disappointing, so I went along with double.

I never had both together though. Hope it does the trick xx

Hi, I have had 2 IVF cycles with first a single trigger (ovitrelle) and dual trigger ( ovitrelle with buserilin). About to have egg retrieval again with dual trigger.

I read somewhere that outcomes were better with dual triggers. For me 2 out of 4 embryos made it to blastocyst with a dual trigger compared to 1 out of 5 in my first cycle with a single trigger.

Your embryologist is right about the empty follicle syndrome. It is a misleading term because there will eggs but they could not be retrieved.

If you want I can send the link to the article I saw- it was a study I think.

Hi flora,

My first round I had 21 follicles and had a single trigger which only resulted in 6 eggs collected and only 2 mature. Second round I had a dual trigger (gonasi) and had 14 eggs collected with 13 mature so dual trigger certainly worked for me. Good luck xx
