Baseline Scan query..

Hi all 🤗. Hope everyone is doing ok?

Starting a new last attempt at OE ivf cycle next week, following a little break after lots of 'failures'. Heading back to the clinic I started at a few years back, but my treatment plan involves a baseline phone call, rather than a scan. Presume to check I've had a bleed after stopping the pill yesterday, and can therefore start Menopur.

My first follicle check scan would then be 7 days after the baseline phone call.

Should I push for an earlier scan or a scan at baseline? I feel like 7 days in might be too late to add more meds in if things aren't progressing as they should 🤔 or that I might be flogging a dead horse if no follicles this month to try to grow.

Any advice/experience much appreciated 🙏

xx

Hi, I’m in the same boat as you - I’m starting an IVF cycle next week, which will be my last shot with my own eggs. My clinic does a baseline scan on Day 2. When I had treatment there in May, I then had a scan/bloods on Day 5 - and then every other day until trigger. They are silly-expensive and can be rather shambolic with their admin - but the regular scans are something I really like about this clinic. Means they keep a really close eye on follicle growth and how I’m responding to the medication (and they have a multi-disciplinary meeting every afternoon to discuss each patient’s progress). But I know that not all clinics do a scan on Day 2 - I’ve seen various women on here say they don’t have one until around Day 7. No harm in pushing for one if you feel strongly about it? Wishing you the very best of luck with your treatment x

Thanks for taking the time to get back to me. Seems a mixed bag as to whether clinics do early scans or not. Have asked the nursing team whether I can have one earlier - feel like this might give me the chance to up dosage earlier if not much happening!

Wishing you lots of luck for your upcoming round too - keep in touch to share frustrations if you like (not being negative but feels like there's always something with each round to test your sanity 🤭) xx

Hi - did your clinic agree to your request? Let’s definitely stay in touch - I ALWAYS have something to complain about with my clinic! 🤣 x

My clinic do a baseline scan to check you’re ready to start stims but then first follicle check scan on day 7. It was the same for me last cycle too, and I’m ok with that as the clinic isn’t the closest, but you can always try to ask for more if you’d like the reassurance.

What did your clinic say? Best to follow them to the letter.

Thank for replying - clinic treatment plan is for first scan on day 7, but I've learnt over a few cycles that you've got to ask the right question at the right time. Last clinic they did one earlier and it helped I think 🤔

Have you had your scan already? How did it go?

Ah thanks for asking ☺️. Unfortunately, had to cancel the cycle due to 0 follicles 🙄. Hope you're doing ok x

Depends on your individual circumstances but I'd push for a baseline scan. My clinic does them for some patients to make sure there are no cysts (I have PCOS, so they did it for me) but also no fibroids in the way. Very best of luck with the new round!

7 days after starting meds is normal for our clinic for first scan (although they do a bloods check at day 5 as well though and moved my scan forward a day once because of that but every other time day 7 it was). We always have a baseline scan though 2-3 days after starting period to check the lining is thin enough etc as they need a fresh lining and also once or twice I’ve had a wee cyst so they’ve checked that’s not producing hormones too. I would defo ask them why they aren’t checking for any of that before starting the menopur like other clinics do. They may have an explanation that will set your mind at ease as to why it’s not needed or your protocol etc xx

My baseline scan was always at 7 days, I think it's standard for a lot of clinics. I did the short protocol so not sure if it's done differently to the long protocol. Good luck! Xxx
