I’ve finally had my Laporoscopy surgery. it’s something I’ve been told in the past , due to my age and low egg reserve to avoid. That it could cause Amh to lower , scarring etc
I haven’t had my follow up appointment to discuss the findings in detail , this will be the 5th July. But my consultant did tell me that my endo was “everywhere” and quite a bit if it. My ovaries were covered in it. She has removed all that was visible .
It has always worried me the impact the surgery will have but right now I think I’m relieved to have had it done. I’m hoping it hasn’t had an effect on my poor egg reserve / womb. Instead I’m hopeful it will have created a better environment for hopefully my next embryo transfer .
I’m day 8 since surgery , defo on the mend, found the first few days a lot harder than expected. My period is due tomorrow (9 days after surgery) but I’ve been bleeding intermittently quite heavy since yesterday so I’m guessing my period could be early?
Has this happened to anyone else?
Most have said the first period is horrible but has anyone had a heavy , pain free period?
My other question is…how soon after lap surgery do you recommend doing next round of ivf?
I know time is not on my side but we would like to have the summer off 😔 maybe wait till end of august/sept.
Unless it’s recommended start sooner, is there better outcomes if starting sooner of waiting 2/3 months is better.
Thanks for an advice or tips in advance x

Hi I hope you are feeling ok and recovering as well as can be from the lap. I think having the endo removal will have made a huge difference for potential embryo transfers with a less inflamed environment. I know they say having surgery prior to ivf can affect amh/ovarian reserve but when I had my lap in 2019, they repeated my AMH test a month later and it had gone slightly higher to the previous test done the year before. So I suppose it is different for each person. I did not have endo removal but had a large endometrioma cyst taken from my ovary and was then diagnosed with endo.
I am not certain how long you are supposed to wait after surgery but it is up to you if you want the summer off, that might be best really for you to build yourself back up, might be worth contacting your fertility clinic to arrange a consultation and discuss will you be having another full round of IVF? or do you have any embryos remaining?
In my situation I had my Lap in the Nov 2019, had a follow up in the Dec then was given the prostap injection in Jan 2020, I then started IVF n the feb/march 2020. This was due to me wanting to start as soon as I could. If you are worried about the delay you may have an option to have the monthly Prostap injections whilst you wait they put you in to chemical menopause and meant to stop endo from growing. I am on them at the moment before my next cycle.
I am not sure about the period after surgery, I think it can vary from person to person, I know mine was delayed but I had my period just the week before the surgery.
I have my follow up next month to discuss the outcome of surgery in detail and decide when to plan next ivf. Obviously I’ll go with what the consultant recommends but it’s really helpful getting other experiences from people on here. I feel I’ve learned so much more on here that from doctors etc
I think I’d like to enjoy one summer hospital free.
Re : period I always find some kind of relief once it’s been and gone. I’ve been bleeding heavy the last few days on and off so hopefully this is it. Not too much pain so far 🤞
Thats good news you have a follow up booked , hopefully they will discuss everything & work out what’s best . Also fantastic if your period endo pain is not too painful.
I totally understand how a break from all things medical will help after going through so much you just want a chance to catch your breathe . I have recently been given a forced break ( a 3 month course of Prostap) before being able to continue into another cycle, although at first I was upset about the delays this will cause , I now feel this is what was needed not only physically but for my mental health too, I had been having treatment for a long time with not much breaks in between. So I am now allowing myself to enjoy this break from ivf stress & hoping it helps & know it was for the best.
I wish you well in the next steps & keep us posted with the plan ahead. Xx
Sometimes a forced break is best, take the decision out of your hands. I’ll see what my consultant says in July but I’m thinking I’ll enjoy a couple of months before getting back to ivf again.
Wishing you lots of luck too…keep us updated too, fingers crossed for both of us ❤️
Hi Rol. Well, at least that’s out of the way, so well done. Looks like this is your first period, which is often heavy, but should calm down afterwards. Usually you can commence IVF 3 months following a laparoscopy. Hope all goes well for you. Diane
Hi Diane, thanks so much for your message . I wasn’t sure at first but yes it’s my period 🙄 very heavy and pains starting , hoping it won’t go on too long. Then a few months “off”
