Sorry for another moaning post but I’m just fed up.
I’m still in pain inside my right hip. It’s a constant dull ache, paracetamol doesn’t touch it.
I had my egg retrieval on the 4th of November, spent a week in hospital with OHSS. Since coming home I’ve had a bleed and assumed the pain would settle down, but it’s not.
How long does it take for the pain to go? Is this normal after a pretty nasty case of OHSS? Or could it be something else?
What do I do? GP has offered ultrasound, but that’s not until January... I’m not sure I can call the clinic again (not until Monday anyway) I’m sure they are pretty fed up of me.
Any advice appreciated.

The clinic will give you as many scans as you wish especially as you've had bad ohss. I didnt have this but it took me a while to recover after retrieval (no transfer) i probably had 3 scans free of charge as I was in a bad state. Mine was private clinic in a NHS hospital. Its better to make sure that youre okay instead of wondering. I wish you well.
You should call the nurse if you are not sure. This is exactly what they are the there for. No need to be embarrassed. You should have an out of hours phone number?
Hi again, I was in pain for quite a while after... I was still in hospital on IV painkillers when my bleed started. I carried on taking analgesia and antiemetics for a good couple of weeks after I was discharged as well. I think it just takes time. I know it’s horrendous, it’s the worst thing ive ever experienced but don’t rush yourself. Rest lots and one morning you will wake up and start to feel better I promise. It’s a horrible thing to go through xx
Thanks Goldie. Emotionally it’s been really hard and I just feel like the pain is being dismissed because of my mental health. I’m just really tearful.I’ll look forward to waking up one day and feeling like me again. X
I cried for weeks. And I still cry whenever I talk about it as there’s a lot of emotions tied up in that experience and it’s traumatic. Just be kind to yourself x
Did you ever have any scans once you were home? I had one is hospital which just showed all the fluid pockets. I’m surprised they haven’t checked since to make sure everything is settling - but maybe that’s not done.
I guess I’m just seeking some reassurance that what I’m experiencing is normal and nothing more sinister is going on.
No I didn’t have anymore scans. I work at the hospital where I was treated and have a really good relationship with the consultant who looked after me, she would have 100% done another scan if she felt it was indicated and I even had two CT scans because of the difficulty I had with breathing. I can only really speak for my circumstances but I guess there’s no reason that it won’t resolve on its own so I’m not sure repeated scans would tell you much. When I started having scans again for my FET my ovaries were still a little on the large side and you could see all the collapsed follicles so they still looked quite messy x
I had OHSS bad too ,was in hospital all over Xmas .. tbh it took another 3 weeks after coming out to feel ok. Just lots of rest try to eat lots of protein /drink protein shakes as that aids recovery. And if you are concerned you shouldn’t feel bad about calling. Hope u feel better soon.
I'd go the gynae A&E, to check it out. They will get an ultrasound sorted straight away.
Apparently OHSS can get worse in rare cases.
I've now had OHSS for 13 weeks and my left ovary is still 8 times normal size. Its still painful but the doctors are taking it seriously. Gynae have been great helping keep an eye on it and managing pain. Its the first time I felt someone was taking it seriously as the IVF clinic just brushed it under the rug.
Its awful, only if I knew. However, im lucky to be pregnant but its just added to all the other first trimester symptoms.
Everyone is different but from what the gynae specialist and doctor have told its best getting it seen to if its not improving to ensure your not one of those rare cases.
Thank you. On my GPs advice I’m taking similar pain meds to those that I took in hospital and it’s making me more comfortable. I think I’ll call my clinic on Monday/Tuesday.
