Self funding advice

Hi everyone looking for advice again.Unfortunately my 4th transfer hasn't worked didn't make it to 2 weeks as often happens.

I'm trying to plan next steps to ease the pain slightly.

I'm 42 and have had 2 full cycles 1st one didn't do so well with IVF second much better fertilisation rate with ICSI. I'm all out of funded cycles due to my age and so I'm looking into self funding.

I would like any advice, I want to stay with my current clinic.

I'm in Scotland.

Thank you ladies xx

I had read somewhere about IVF insurance when I was looking into self funding my IVF. I’m not quite sure how it works as I didn’t end up going down that route, but might be worth googling and looking into? Maybe someone on here knows more about it.

Hi Williamsgirl.. well,I suppose you will need to speak about different medications, whether another drug would help, obviously depending upon hormone levels. Perhaps keep with ICSI too. All the best and I will be thinking of you. Diane

Thank you. I'm an odd one I think for them my ovarian reserve is very high they generally grt around 18 eggs at retrieval. Good quality blasts of grade 5ab, they just don't seem to stick! Will have a chat with them and see what can be done it's so frustrating x

hi, I have used access fertility and they were great. Transparent fee structure, answer the phone, straightforward form filling and good value when you see what the clinics charge on a pay as you go structure. Good luck 🍀

Thank you always nice to know someone's experience with these companies. Do they allow you to choose you centre? I've always been with ninewells dundee and would love to stay with them x

I second access fertility. Very good. But they have a list of approved clinics so you need to make sure yours is on the list :)

Thank you. I've had a look and my clinic isn't but there is a private one they use near by, it was really the familiarity I was looking for with my own clinic but perhaps fresh eyes on my treatment won't do any harm x

I’m so sorry that it didn’t work and that you need to pay now 😢 if it’s Glasgow I’d say phone the private line and get a consultation in asap as even though no waiting lists for self funded it can take a while to get the paperwork in order after that to get going. They are also much more willing to look at extra meds etc when self funding (as you pay for them lol) so I’ve had extra progesterone support that means I at least get to the end of the 2WW. If it is the clinic I’m thinking of then I’ve moved from nhs to self funded there so if you ever have any questions feel free to message me xx

Ps nhs Glasgow one is about £3k cheaper than the nearby Glasgow one so the access fertility thing didn’t really balance out for us and I liked the familiarity (trying not to use the names as not sure we are meant to on here) but I know others who liked the other one, both admin teams are rubbish though in my experience! xx

Hi twiglet,Thanks for your message. I'm gutted as you can imagine but finding it a bit easier by planning my next move.

I'm in fife so dundee is easier for me. I would like to stay with ninewells for the familiarity I've gotten to know the staff well and they are a lovely bunch. The clinic access fertility use in Dundee seems good though. I've emailed them to enquire. I do wonder if fresh eyes may not be a bad thing and like you say I do feel I need a little bit extra med support to at least get to the 2 week point! Xx

makes total sense I felt the exact same and did the exact same as you (but between the 2 Glasgow clinics) I eventually settled on staying where I was but I was close to going to the other one as you say a fresh pair of eyes can be good. It came down to financials and familiarity for us but I was very tempted. Defo worth a consultation at both I would say! Xx

Yeah same for us we will explore both and see how it goes. I don't think ninewells offer any financial plans as such all fees need pid upfront which would take a bit of saving x

yeah we put it on a long 0% interest CC and paid it off in what we would have saved monthly to get the ball rolling in the beginning but it’s a hefty outlay all at once for sure! Xx

Yeah it sure is! In amongst everything else. I'm going to go to the parents today and watch the coronation feeling sorry for myself with glass of wine now that I can 😔 xx
