Change of protocol from Menopur to Gonal F??

Hi ladies,

First just wanted to say thank you to everybody on this forum for their support. This forum has helped me through some of my darkest times and I’m so very grateful.

So Im currently 5 weeks + 5 days after a double FET (my 5th transfer). Yesterday, I unexpectedly started bleeding really heavily whilst at work and this was accompanied by the worst back & abdominal cramps. It was such a shock as it seemed to come out of nowhere but I think it’s over and I’m trying to process. I have a scan at my fertility clinic today but I’m not holding much hope after what I saw and went through.

I’m trying to plan for my next cycle and will be going abroad once my body recovers. To date, I’ve always been on Menopur but this the new clinic would like to put me on Gonal F and Cerotide. Does anybody have any experience of changing protocols like this and was this better in the end?

I’m 42 and after 3 IVF cycles with a total of 5 transfers I’m worried about switching to a completely different protocol. Having said that, I have PCOS and I ended up with quite bad OHSS after my last cycle with Menopur so I have concerns all around.

Any advice is appreciated and thanks so much.

Xxx

Hello, first of all it might not be over yet 🙏Bleeding in early pregnancy is relatively common. I had a double FET and bled from around 5 to 13 weeks. I lost one of the babies sometime between around 8 to 13 weeks, but I now have a beautiful healthy 20 month old girl! (Conceived at 41, birth at 42)

I switched later from Meriofert to Gonal F as I'm trying for a sibling. I don't think it's made much difference for me. They are meant to be similar in outcome. It's a bit more expensive in the UK, but is meant to be less acidic and more natural, so may be better for quality.

Good luck and keep us updated xx

Thanks so much Orange Flowers. Your story gives me a little hope. My body feels very different to how it has been feeling prior to the bleeding so I’m preparing myself for the worst.

That’s interesting to know about the Gonal F potentially being better for egg quality. I didn’t ask the clinic properly as to why the change to the protocol so this really helps.

Thanks again, and good luck with trying for a sibling. Xx
