Hydroxychloroquine for FET?? Any experiences??

Hi all,

I've just completed 2 courses of Humira/Adalimumab to try to bring down my cytokines, but unfortunately it didn't work and they went higher (46).

I have one good quality day 3 embryo on ice from 5 years ago when i was 37. I won't be getting any more as I'm in full menopause now.

I'm finally ready to do the transfer and my clinic have been doing everything they can to try to eliminate possible fail factors, becuase they know a lot rests on this one embryo. They say the next step could be a 6 week course of hydroxy- and it brings down cytokines in 68% of cases.

So I'd love to hear if anyone else has used this to support FET or had to make the decision to do so. It has potentially risky sideeffects (rare). I don't have a history of failed implantation, they are just trying to offer me everything.

I'm starting to wonder if I give up trying to create 'perfect' conditions for the embryo, which might not work any way. If I avoid the hydroxy and ask for support via steroids, soya drip and progesterone.

Love to hear if u know anything about this- thanks for listening!

Hello Madga, you may have already seen this past thread on Hydroxy which I researched for a friend of mine who was also recommended this to take care of her autoimmune issues during transfers but just in case you haven't and you want to read up on replies as you await more recent experience reports in response to your post:

healthunlocked.com/fertilit...

I only have two PGT-A tested embryos and am 44 now so definitely won't be doing any more egg collections, I can completely relate to your desire to create those perfect conditions for your one and only transfer with your own embryo. I did all the tests, too. I wasn't recommended Humira or Hydroxy but I just wanted to pass on my experience with the steroids, blood thinner, aspirin, intralipids combo which my consultant prescribed to deal with various antibodies my thrombophilia and thyroid panels unearthed (plus the age factor hence the aspirin and blood thinners). So far I have not noticed any side effects, the intralipids infusion went smoothly and other than a cold sensation in my arm I have not felt any different than before. If my test is positive I would have two more intralipids infusions until 12 weeks and would need to continue with the steroids until 10w and then taper off. Aspirin is likely going to be my morning companion for the duration of pregnancy but my clinic will leave this for the midwives to decide, always assuming I will get to that point!

Wishing you so much luck and positive energy for your FET, here's fervently hoping it will give you your dream! X

Thank you so much! That is a really interesting thread. Some very enthusiastic reports in there. I've been wondering about a package of treatments as you describe you're on. But if my clinic think hydroxy, maybe i should go with that. We do pay them for their knowledge and experience, afterall!

A big thing for me, thinking it over in the past few days, is contemplating a shift in mindset - giving up on trying ti create 'perfect' conditions. It adds so much stress, the embryo might be no good, abd ultimately there is no controlling this. Even the most experienced doctors are trying things out!

I really hope this round goes well for you 😍😎🙏🏻❤

Thank you so much for your wishes, Magda! 💕 I can see why stepping away from trying to control the uncontrollable appeals, especially when you've been on the rollercoaster for a while and doors keep leading to even more doors. If you feel you'd like to try moving away from trying to tick off every possible reason to be unsuccessful then listen to your heart and take that leap of faith! Wishing you all the best for your next transfer, much love to you! X

I had a history of Grave’s disease many years ago and was positive for antinuclear antibodies although subsequent autoimmune screen was negatives. I was still put on hydroxychloroquine for a bit before the egg collection and experienced no side effects at all. However as didn’t have any embryos created (only two eggs collected , 1 matured and none fertilized), I wouldn’t know if it was helpful for implantation or not .
