Is there hope after 5 miscarriages?

hi there, grateful if anyone could share success stories after a series of miscarriages. Over the course of 2-3 years I’ve had 5 miscarriages, a mix of IVF and natural, mostly chemical pregnancies.

Having another chemical today so it’s hitting me hard xx

I don't know if this is helpful not but I had two before 6weeks, then a very healthy LG, now I think I am having another loss (am 6weeks) (all IVF). My doctor said the odds are generally 1 out of 3 works if it's unexplained but my losses and this suspected one were all on fresh, whereas I had success on frozen - not sure if that's relevant to you. My Mum said she had two chemical/early losses naturally in between having three children but I hate the whole it's just one of those things/it wasn't meant to be rhetoric and when you spend so much money and go through so much to have it go feels much more difficult somehow - like you have tried harder or something, and you feel like it was all for nothing. But I have a LG so it wasn't all for nothing and I am trying so hard today to think I'll just get through this awful bit, hope there are no complications and keep trying as the hope is what keeps me going x

thank you so much for your reply. I’m sorry for your previous losses and that you feel you may be going through one now. Infertility/losses are so hard. It’s really helpful to know that there can still be hope after all these losses. I have an appointment with my local recurrent miscarriage clinic soon so I really hope they’ll be able to offer some tests and reassurance.

Wish you all the best with your journey xxx

I am so sorry for our losses. I am not sure if my story helps as it is a donor egg story, but I had six miscarriages over the years TTC with my own eggs, three were natural (either chemical or up to 7-8 weeks) and three were IVF (2 chemical and 1 at 9 1/2 weeks).

We changed clinic, did a 3D scan of my uterus which found a number of anomalies which were operated on and also switched to donor eggs. I can't tell you which out of those things made the difference but I am currently 36 weeks pregnant.

I genuinely never thought I would see the day I had a baby. In fact about 2 years ago I undertook counselling to try and prepare myself for a childless life, read various books about it and took a year out to get to grips with the fact that IVF just wasn't going to work for me. Yet here I am. It took us nearly 7 years, 7 rounds and a total of 17 embryos transferred but we got there in the end x

hi Daisy, can’t thank you enough for sharing your experience. I’m so sorry about all your miscarriages but also very happy that you’re having success now. Wishing you a healthy, uneventful couple of weeks. It’s funny how fate can completely change the plans you’ve made for yourself.

Your story certainly gives me hope that with persistence and investigations, we can get closer to achieving our goal. I really hope my local recurrent miscarriage clinic can offer some answers. Thanks again xx

Hello,I'm so sorry for your losses.Similarly,I had three losses following IVF. Although we can't be certain,I believe the first two were down to then undiagnosed blood clotting conditions.Have you had blood tests to see whether you have any conditions that may be contributing to early loss?

My third loss was due to a poor quality egg and the fourth Edward's syndrome but I now have a beautiful little eight week old.

I thought about giving up so many times.

Make sure your clinic are putting you on the best protocols and definitely ask for a blood test if you've not already had it done. Xx

hello, thank you so much for sharing your story. Congratulations on the little one! Must feel great after all you’ve been through. I was diagnosed with APS a few months ago which we think was the main cause of all previous miscarriages. You’re absolutely right, I need my new clinic now to get me on the right protocol. Thank you so much xx

hi there, so sorry to hear of your losses 😞

I’ve had 4 documented early losses (pre 6 weeks) and one suspected chemical. Four were natural, one IVF. The first three (natural) were before i had tests and we discovered i had a blocked tube, the cause of the miscarriages. The other two (1 natural; 1 fresh transfer) we have no idea what happened - the transfer was a 4AA.

I’m currently 30 weeks pregnant following a double transfer, don’t know if it was the 4AB or 3BB that implanted. Just as i got pregnant we had had our referral to the recurrent miscarriage come through. They still looked after me in first trimester and were great. It was a reassuring next step for me pre-pregnancy and I’d highly recommend asking your GP for a referral. Google tommys recurrent miscarriage for more info. Feel free to DM if you have more qus too xx

thank you so much for your helpful advice, many congratulations on making it this far.

You sometimes lose hope after so many losses but your story gave me hope. I have APS which is one of the biggest causes of miscarriage so you’re right, I need the recurrent miscarriage clinic to look after me so I hopefully have success in the future. Wishing you all the best xx

Hello lovely

I am so sorry for all your losses. I know how heartbreaking it is xxxxx We have had a very hard journey losing our baby boy in the second trimester and 4 other losses in the first trimester. We did lots tests and investigations and although I had a few issues (I.e.: surgery to correct a T-shaped uterus, treat my adenomyosis, blood clotting issues) it is likely they were mainly due to some autoimmune problems. The good news is that got the treatment (I was on loads of meds in my last transfer/ pregnancy) I needed and after so much heartache my boy was born last April. I never thought I could first get pregnant and then carry a pregnancy until the end, but we got there in the end. Please feel free to PM me if you want to chat. I hope my story gives you some hope. Sending you hugs and love in this very difficult and sad time for you xxxx

thank you so much for sharing your story, so sorry for what you’ve been through before but what a lovely outcome ❤️ many congratulations!

I have very similar issues to what you’ve described (endometriosis, blood clotting issues etc) so it’s really reassuring to know that with the right meds things can still work out despite previous losses. Thanks so much xxx

Hello lovely,

I am so sorry to hear that you also have similar issues 🥲 I really struggled with my endometriosis and I know what a terrible disease it is! I suffer from severe endo (DIE) pretty much everywhere (I.e.: bilateral endometriomas, in the utero sacral ligaments, pouch of Douglas, ovarian fossa… a pararrectal nodule and endo even affecting my ureters and bladder) and had to have excision surgery for that as well, before my successful transfer. If you have any questions or if you need to chat, please feel free to message me. Thinking of you and sending you lots of strength and positive vibes xxxxx

I thought for a moment this message was one I had written and posted our stories are so similar. just had my last embyro donation on the 31st of January this year. negative pregnancy test at 2 weeks. My 5th transfer... 1st and 2nd tested positive 1st till 3 weeks and second until 5 weeks so chemical pregnancies. but do you know what.... I had to ask myself so is that it have you had enough? and no I will keep going because I cant see my life without a baby. credit union have told me not to ask for another loan for at least 6 months .I am currently trying to claim tax back for my previous treatments in Greece which I wasnt aware I was entitled too....when your going through hell....keep walking.....x

I have received treatment in Greece, what is that about claiming tax back?

hi Daisy, thanks for your reply. What a coincidence!

It’s really tempting to walk away from it all and throw it all behind you, but it’s the what if and the fear of regretting my decision later on that keeps me going. You’re such an inspiration, thanks again for sharing your experience. Wishing you all the best xx

I know I am on the other side now but I just used to say to my husband that we just needed to keep on keep going and never lose hope and hope that we would get there eventually even if it was a long journey. It is very hard but after struggling so much with infertility, losses and IVF, we just become very resilient xxx
